hi guys :D long time since i posted here
anyway i was working on my character and i thought that i should have it like Indy in FOA so i did, take a look:
original 2x and 4x

and new guy, 2x and 4x
(http://www.geocities.com/jnatann/Images/micaelfront.png)(http://www.geocities.com/jnatann/Images/micaelfront.png)
my proplems are mostly the face, because anyone knows that this is Indy so i don't know how to change his face
ps please mind that i am not done with the trousers
Its a paint over, and not exactly a top quality one.
You seem to have just darkened the face, and it will look fine if you darken the cheeks as well.
Why didn't you either:
A) Do a complete paintover, where you leave the shading the same but you change the colours,
B) Attempt an original character.
The answer to your other problem is: You can't change the face. Its Indy's stance, Indy-esque, Indy-everything. You couldn't change it without drawing a new one.
Oh, and when Darth (or the 1st mod to pick this fruit) gets here he's going to be a li'l annoyed when you posted before you had even finished.
The problem with doing a paint over is that it will usually always be recognizable as the character you're trying to paint over
sorry to say but this will always be the Indy sprite, we've seen it so much we can tell no matter how much you change the colours.
if you can live with that then it's fine, the bright cheeks don't really do much for it, what's the purpose of that?
instead of using black and white go with a more greyed up or browned up white. so it doesn't smack you in the eyeballs for being so bright. The same with the black, absolute black on his jacket may not be the best idea but who knows, could work better than the white.
Mr Flibble, again... There's no problem with posting something that isn't finished. Where are you getting this from?
Maybe try adding a few pixels here and there to change the hair style, shoulder width, eyes, hands, etc.
Try changing the length of the arms/legs maybe.
When you're working on something this small in size it's not really all that dangerous to just throw pixels around.Ã, It's what I do .. and you can usually come up with some pleasing results.
Mr. Flibble - as Mr.C said, posting a WiP is totally acceptable!!Ã, That's what the CL is [partly] here for!
well, i am going to explane something, my game happenes in a ship and befour you go into the ship, you are packing you stuff, here is my idea:
you can choose which cloths you go with ex there are 3 sweater, 2 trouser, one jacket and in the ship, you put all the cloths in the closet, now you can choose which cloth you are going to use in this game (and you can change almost every time) that way, when you got bored with the cloth, you just go to your room and change :)
i thougt this idea GREAT
so this will be just one of the things you can choose from
so what i need is a caracter which is "naked" ;) so i can see what i can make cloths for him
instead of working on making his clothes all moderatley attractive, make sure that its one set of clothes is very nice, then the player wont get bored with the clothes and want a change.
not once during MI2 did i want to change my clothes... except into that pretty pink dress. i felt like a true pirate then.
Actually, I really like the idea of the main character changing clothes - (maybe because as a boy, I wasn't allowed to play with dolls, due to which I developed a severe suicido-depressional trauma and now occupy myself with murdering women) - but:
At first I was going to tell Mouse it would work better if changing clothes was important in a way (e.g. you have to wear a tuxedo to get to the captain's ball) - but then I went: "How can you be so bloody sure, Goldmund? Why exactly would it work better?"
And I realised I was wallowing in stereotypes. Why changing clothes cannot be a part of the pleasure on itself, without meaning? To hell with meaning! Live new!
Quoteso what i need is a caracter which is "naked"
Something like this?
my first paint-over ever (and my first naked indy...)

Ok i suck, il just quit the game because i can't do a caracter

this were suposed to be a jeans and t-shirt but it didn't, i can't do the caracter :'(
or indy is trying to be masculine, or he's got irritating deodorant :=
sorry didn't try being rude :)
Blackman, the only advice I can give you is to try making your own character from scratch, follow tutorials about anatomy in pixelart and such, there should be plenty of those. Making characters is very difficult. I had a struggle with it too, in the end I was kinda satisfied, but I never do pixelart that much anymore because it takes too much of my precious time.
Just try, and in the end you'll get there,
you've always got the CL to help you
QuoteOk i suck, il just quit the game because i can't do a caracter
don't despair blackman - that one is not that bad. Try making your own character form the scratch - it is not easy to make an indy sprite look like anything else than indy.
Maybe you should just leave the sprite as it is and make something else for the game. then come back to the character sprites later?
Quoteor indy is trying to be masculine, or he's got irritating deodorantÃ, Ã,Â
LOL
You are right. i never before tried to draw a male breast in that little format...

you are right, i will continue on bg, when its ready, then i will start on the character
QuoteYou are right. i never before tried to draw a male breast in that little format...
Male?
I can't see that he's male! You forgot little detail... :D
Actually
blackman890,
The Indy sprite you started with is NOT compatible with your style, that's the problem.
That and the fact that you may not have your OWN style yet since you're a newbie in sprite industry.
Yes, follow the tutorials and work alot, soon you'll find a way to draw characters which suits best for you.
I have been mis-informed. I just always remember some people getting pretty pissed off when a noob posted with a basically blank room in hope that someone would do it for him.
A "gimmie" noob.
But in this case I am mistaken. I thought it had to be pretty much finished, and in the cases where it wasn't no-one cared because the art was so good.
