I'm playing with photoshop and trying to draw a simple room, just as a training, partially according to a tutorial I've read. C&C is welcome, and tips for improvement even moreso. I also wanted to ask how I can make the lines thinner, after having drawn them. Is it possible? I just can't draw with very thin lines, because they might be lost, but i don't like thick lines. ;)

Are you resizing the background after drawing it? That's what it looks like, judging from the lines..
Yes, I resized it, but only for the forum, this bg isn't meant for a game or anything, so the size doesn't matter. That explains the lines looking weird. Is there some option in PS t like, select lines and change they're widths after doing the outline? And coloring afterwards.
Anyway, being an experiment it is missing a lot, isn't connected to anything, and umm, now that I look at it, it's extremely empty. I'll make changes to it later, I'm working on a website right now. Anyone else have comments?
P.s. How can I use shading to show light coming out of the lamp? Like a small glow around the bulb?

They are truly wonderful tutrials eric, unfortunatlely I've read them zillions of times , and still do, even if just for the fun of it, ;).
I used the technique you use in your hi-res bg tutorial, as far as I can at least, layers and adjustment layers for shading, but I'm not very good at shading, I think I need to work my understanding of how things are shaded in real life.

and to get thin lines just use the one pixel pencil tool and that's as thin as you're going to get
i think you might find it helpful to practice drawing some real life rooms freehand first. unless that one is meant to be a hall or something i think you need to make the ceiling lower/door bigger.
also (and ive thought this about a lot of backgrounds on here) i think its a good idea to draw rooms from angles other than the old, straight on, view. tho if your going for a genuine old skool feel maybe you wont wanna do that.

lol i mucked up my pencil, dont ask me how but its gone semi-tranceparent! i have to use the paintbrush, which is annoying when making characters for AGS games, as you have to take it into paint and erase around the endes to get rid of the very slightly off white, barely visible white lines that the paint brush leaves around it!

you probably adjusted the opacity on accident
you can use the number keys to adjust it quickly or find the opacity slider and change it back to 100
depends on which version of photoshop you use is where the slider is
