This is a background from a game Im making. It will take place in the cold north so I hope this looks alittle chilly.
I will add falling snow later, Ive thought about using the SnowRainplugin but I didnt really think that it would fit my style. tell me what you think!

On first impression I like this a lot.
The depth of field works well. The mountain in the background looks great. The textures on the building look great!
The only thing I could complain about is there seems to be a lack of shadows. The snow looks good but it's hard to tell the shape of the ground. The drifts up to the door look like there's no depth ... like the snow is painted on the walls next to the door. It should 'buldge' out a little to give it depth. Snow is one area I rarely touch 'cause it's so hard to make it look right!
Other than that it's great! It definately does look cold and deserted ::)
dm
great looking BG!!!
if it is to look deserted, then the snow would be mounded up in front of the door.*could be a puzzle to find a shovel*
Scummy: Yes, Ive thought about that but this background is, at least at the moment, just a part of a long cutscene and having the door blocked by snow would make things difficult for me, since that would interupt the story somewhat. I will see if there is any way around this..
here is the picture with snow,

I thought it should be more blue. I tried a quick edit... Oh there was no land on the other side of the building so I added that too...

Reminds me of the second leg of the first mission on Agent Under Fire... the first building looks a carbon copy of that.
Nice work though. Good snow.
For that desserted look you should add some broken/broken down things out front or abandoned stuff as well , maybe even a hole in the roof if its mega abandoned.
Evil: Yes, indeed it looks better with some more blue in it. And I had totally missed that fact that there were no land behind the building! thanks!
Flippy_D: I dont have a clue what game Agent Under Fire is. I did this as usually do my pictures. Using Bryce 3d, Tons of pictures of the antartic area, textures. Ive found out that its alittle easier to get the view right by making the basic shapes in Hammer which is a mapmaking program for Halflife. Then when I like the angles I just add the colors and other stuff, windows etc in Photoshop or psp.
Necro: Good idea. Ill add some snowcovered stuff.
The animated snow scene is beautiful!
The gap in the snow in front of the door looks rather unrealistic. If there's a channel that's been shoveled away, it needs some three-dimensional depth. Another way to do it would be to curve the surface down to the bottom of the door so that it looks like a valley between snowdrifts.
Try removing the bright white contours on the snow (especially around the door). They give the image a very pixelated look when not antialiased against the dark color of the wall.
Also, I think the problem with the snow by the door is that the snow drift is concave rather than convex. Actually it looks like it's flat against the wall at the top.
Otherwise it's a great image!
Amazing background! Are you making a game?
Thanks everyone for the comments and critics! I bow my head for thee! ;P
agsking: Yeah. Actually its my first thing ever be done in Ags and I want it to be a fullscale long game with music (since I am more of a musican than a programmer) and some nice graphics in 256 colors 320x200. And Yes I know, its mission impossible! But at least I gonna try.
Hopefully within a couple of weeks (when I know that I really will be able to complete this) Ill be releasing a little trailer showing what its all about.
I cant tell you thats the game is taking place up in the cold north and its a horror game. ;)
This looks spectacular!
It has that perfect look of something which is hand-drawn, but also somehow realistic.
Your style reminds me a LOT of Gabriel Knight 1... hope this game gets completed!
It looks nice, apart from the "gap" in the snow in front of the door.
And I agree with Hobbes, with the snow falling, it does look like GK1... Ah... Rittersberg.... ;D
