Das Plans

Hi there!

A few weeks ago I posted my first character and his walk-cycle in this forum. Since your suggestions on how to improve the guy were pretty helpful I now present you the first room I did for the game. It is still a rough draft â€" the empty space in front of the counter is supposed to be filled with walk-behind-tables and chairs, which still look quite odd at the moment. Also I´m having a little trouble with lighting and shading FX. So I let them out, too.
Aside from that, what do you think of the style? Would you be able to maneuver your character through an environment like this for a while, without getting nauseous?

Thanks again for your comments!

Wow! I don´t consider myslef a bad artist, but I am impressed when I see that early 90 lucasarts style backgrounds, I can´t archieve them...

I really like the mirror... but it is going to be weird when the character passes in front of it and won´t be reflected (And, if you script something to archieve the reflection, please, pass it and you´ll have my eternal admiration...)

Things that Farlander would add:

Blackboard for the darts´score.
Wooden floor.
Some kind of stuff aver the bar... In that irish? old pubs they should have something like that...
Some flags, posters, old photos... I can recall many of this items from Cheers... Are you trying to archieve some kind of Cheers stylr pub, aren´t you?

Dunno... I can´t really criticise the style, I just can think in things to fill the room...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

This isn't too bad.

* The mirror (if that's what it is) behind the bar should at least reflect the area about it.
* The door should be inset to add depth.

A paint-over to illustrate:

(the perspective on the door is off ... I didn't spend too much time on this)

And, as Farlander said, details!!  Fill the place up!!

A wooden floor would be way cool.

Some beams in the ceiling.

More tables.

etc.

But this is off to a great start!

Lots of good advice has already been given; I'll just add that you should get rid of that little sliver of ceiling and extend the walls up through the top of the image.  Based on the angle between the walls and floor, the horizon is well above the top of the image, and therefore the ceiling should not be visible at all.

I'd include some kind of wooden board behind the dartboard. it looks like a stone wall, and that wouldn't be very good for your darts. :)

Das Plans

Hi!

Wow... thanks for your comments and the edit. Now that you mention it, it all seems so obvious. I´ll start working on it right away.  :D

Oh, one last thing: The dartboard is supposed to hang directly on the stone wall. It´s a part of a puzzle, in which we have to get an untwisted dart. The ones the barkeeper can offer us are all twisted due to the fact that they more often hit the wall than the board itself. That´s why there are all these little holes around it.

Well, I´ll try improving the picture. I´ll post it when it´s done. Thanks again.

Looking good! I think that the floor is way too empty. Add some tables and other misc stuff to it.

I like this alot!

Hiya,

i think, I´m on the right way now. Added a wooden floor, a scoreboard, some perspective to the door, a neon sign, a mirror reflection, and two disgusting tables. I´m still not done yet, right now I´m trying to make the tables and chairs look a little nicer - I just wanted to show you, that I aprreciate your tips.

So here you go. The improved version:

timh_009

try making the tables circular.
Love the neon sign, try putting a music note on the end or something.
Looks great keep up the good work! ;D
I am slaving away over:

Wow, that's an amazing improvement there! It's all becoming one part now. I really like the neon-sign!

Only the right-side of the background is empty. Maybe you could place a billiart table there or something?

That is great!

I love it. Add a tv or a radio to the table.

Mayby a messageboard to the wall. Or something, like posters or pictures.
Hey! Google for old bar/pub pictures, and take some influense from those!!

I love that art style!

Ahoi,

thanks for your comments. Regarding the empty floor to the right: I love the idea of a billard table.
Also, I´m up to fill the walls to the left and right with crap like license plates, street signs, posters etc.

I´m glad to hear that you like the style. That´s some incentive to go on...  ;D

I hope Art Malone will appear in the "Games in production" forum before long. I´m curious what ppl will think of the concept. But there will be a few million clicks to be clicked before that.

Chop chop.

That makes my Bluecup bar look really lame... :'(

I might as well stop doing work on it, and forget about the Bluecup "tv-series", seeing as you've bettered my background, and that bar is called a very similar Blue Note...

Das Plans

There, there, Os Último...

Hey, this is no contest, and if you stop that game you´re developing right now, I´ll show up at your place in person and..  and..  well...  tell you, not to stop.  :)
Me want new adventure!

Hmmm, I never realized the similarity between Blue Cup and Blue Note. Maybe a little blue cup on the counter would be just the gag, people would expect.

But it's not a game, so whats the point. ???

Os Último Quão Queijo:
Oh, misunderstanding. I thought you were talking about a mix between a conventional AG and a TV Show. I heard some people talking about such a "format". You know, like, one little episode every month. Somehow I thought that´s what you were planning.

Hey!  HerrStein!

I like your backgrounds!  Very high quality work!  Good job, keep it up. ;)
Watch, I just killed this topic...
