Title: traditional pastel house
Post by: Andail on Fri 04/02/2005 10:42:58
Pastels with some touching up in photoshop. I guess I could work with it some more in ps to improve it; for now it will be some sort of concept picture I guess.

You know its thing liek this that stops me from reading the Critics Lounge anymore. Someone posts some awesome artwork like this and says "I guess it needs more work, its only really good for a concept picture". I'd kill (well, at least maim) to be able to produce picture like this.  :'(

Really like the colors though the lighting confuses me. The house seems lit up by strong warm sunlight which doesn't seem to hit anything else.

Nothing says you can't be creative with the lightusage of course, and it does create an interesting atmosphere. If you want the house to blend in more in the picture however, I'd apply the same light to the rest of the enviroment.

I'd also go with more blue in the house shadow.

Since I'm unsure what you want I won't bother with an edit. Nicely done in any case.

Impressionism: Seurat (1882) - Andail (2005) - Expressionism: Heckel (1908)

It's awesome, excellent colors, boosts atmosphere. Being bored with my job (again) I decided to see how it looked without a couple of green lines which caught my attention (they are still there, but much less prominent).

I didn't mind them that much, and they sortof went with the style of some of the blue in the background.

I agree on loominous' point regarding the lighting, it's sortof a Magritte effect... ;)

this is cool. You're like a "real" artist, when compared to these other painters.

(recommended)
* Add a moon(light) to the horizon, and some (shadows of) trees
* repaint(recolor) the chimney
* I don't know if it's fine with the style, but a silhouette of a wolf or woman looking standing on the road - waiting for someone - would give a good "artistic sense" boost... er... can't explain it, but I see it clearly there.

(optional)
* give me rights for this picture
* die, after 20(0) years you'll be famous
* make me rich! :D

Well, I'm no Loominous, but I gave it a shot.

I thought that the chimney looked out of place so I dragged the highlight behind it to make it stand out. I also thought the horizion line was too low on the left so I raised that. Then there was a big black spot so I poorly moved the lighted grass over. But nothings too serious because it's already an awesome peice. Always love your work.

Good looking, indeed! But it bothers me that the roof is not symmetrical. How come?

Edit:
I tried to estimate your vanishing point and edited your picture to show what I meant with the roof. Also unsuccessfully altered the side window a little... The lower part should tilt a little more to the left I believe... Don't mind the hard jpeg compression, it's all just for reference...

in my humble opinion, the backround is a bit too dark, so you cant understand it very well. Espescially the trees and the water.
