Hi! I just wanted to try to draw a DOTT style background and this is what came up.

What do you think?Ã,  :)

Scummbuddy

looks like you were using aussies tutorial.

youve got a great start there! It looks like you put some good effort into the tv and tv stand. But to me, the couch stands out too much by it not being as 'zany' as your tv stand. the door knob is missing, and unless you are having anything interesting about the ceiling, you may be showing too much of it.

cant wait to see your next version or different background.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I don't think there's a door for a door knob to go on, from the small bit of skirting board you can see, looks like its just a door frame opening onto another room, no door

I've been doing Aussie's Tutorial as well... it's a good one...

This is what I came up with ( I think, I kinda got the "Day Of The Tentacle"-Style there... Especially with the cupboard to the right... )

Very simple and undetailed, I know, but it was just a test... Sorry for the JPEG-Noise!

Anyways...

Yes, it was a good tut. Thanks Aussie!Ã,  ;D And thanks for the comments. I'll try to improve the pic a little.Ã,  :)

Nightwolf-88

that's cool, my dear Pablo!  :)

Nightwolf-88

that "my dear Pablo" was mine and Pablo's inside humour. ;)

Ubel

Yay! I added that cool frame to it! :D

Umm... What did you mean by that Wolf?Ã,  :-\

Custard, you are correct, there is no door there. I would then suggest that you change the wall color a tad darker, or lighter, just to show that it may be a hallway wall.

and Nightwolf, you can feel free to have your own humor on the boards... no one thought you were odd for saying my dear Pablo.. but just edit your previous post, dont double post please.

*updated the pic while i was typing this...
I would actually say that I prefer your previous shilloute to the current frame one. Mostly because its a random squiggly one.. but if you made it as if we were looking through a vent duct, or just sitting on a desk looking past pencils and stuff, that would be better, in my opinion.

Could someone link me up to Aussie's toturial? It would be fun to see it.

I now truly hope it's not on some obvious place, like in the toturial section, making me look like a total jackass.

There's a lot of potential in those backgrounds, keep it up!

Ok. I've made some small changes:

Darkened the doorway a little.
Added some details.
Changed the color of the roof.

Also I took that frame thing off. It wasn't so cool afterall.  ;)

A little note on Aussie's tutorial:
I prefer to use the Path tool rather than the Polygon Lasso since the Path tool allows for tweaking without redrawing the entire shape.
Just be sure (if you want to keep the pixeled look) to right click on the path to make it a selection instead of using the button. The button defaults to antialiasing but you can switch it off if you right click.

Very nice background, i like the style (it sorta looks like my style). Does Aussie post anymore, or is she/he gone? It would be very nice to get some tips from him/her.

Tanker, I posted yesterday on your "New Room" thread...

hahahahha. Hey aussie.... I know it sounds greedy of me, but could you make an "outdoors" tutorial? This tutorial was wonderful, and helped me alot, but try as I might, I couldn't really apply the techniques to outdoors.

I guess I could have a go at the great outdoors.

I haven't really developed that sort of bg save for urban scenarios (buildings, roads and stuff like that).

"Al Gurbish in Nick it and Run" has spades of those, if you want to have a look.Ã,

BTW, Pablo, I think the door is a bit out of perspective. The top should not be as skewed. Also, don't get lazy with the lighter lines along the edges of things. They add depth.
