Title: Trying something new.
Post by: earlwood on Thu 29/12/2005 05:06:26
Got back into the sprite swing, and wanted to try something a bit different...

Now I need a less objective mind to tear it apart.

I take it you mean "a less subjetive mind". :D

Well, I love it! It reminds me of something I've seen before but I can't put my finger on it. Fantastic art style.

They both look pretty cool, nice style you got there.

The right one looks like he's about to fall on his back, though.
And I'd move up the knees, to make the hindlegs more insect-like (short thighs, long...err...what's it called? ;))

Very cool indeed. Maybe the shading is a tad too subtle, they appear a bit flat as of now.

I like the idea of varying the line width, but it needs more consistency. Decide whether the lines get thicker on the curves or on the straight bits.

Also, when designing sprites like these (that rely on more basic shapes) don't forget to flip them horizontally often (it'll help give you an idea of weight and balance).

The shading you have is too subtle. A simple, harsh drop shadow would greatly enhance the depth rather than the fiddly shading you have nibbling around the edges (they still look flat).

I really love the style you've developed here. My only complaint is that they lack detail in the faces and they seem rather aliased.. But that just may be a resize problem.

You should try animating them.
