I'm going to need two kinds of security turrets for my MAGS game - "Shock" and "Gun" turrets, both with a fire animation. This is what I have done:

Gun Turret

Shock Turret

The shock looks fine to me, but the Gun Turret animation seems a little... weird to me. Any suggestions on how to improve it?

Mr Flibble

Make the recoil motion of the gun firing about twice as fast, and then leave the motion where it extends outwards at normal speed.

Or, go find Eric's tutorial on Easing in and out of motions.

Otherwise, I really like these. Good work.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Medical Waste

The gun looks more like it's squirting something out then anything else  :o

With the turret, on the recoil, the smaller piece would retract faster than the back piece until a certain point, then the secondary portion will recoil at just about the same speed as the first part, they will then both expand to normal at just about the same speed.

Here is an example of what I mean

Or you could have something like this:

Just an example, I just did this in about 3 mins.

Use this recoil, and speed the barrel moving back up a bit and it'll look great.

Doesn't the shock one need to extend its shock stuff a bit further though. I know this wouldn't happen scientifically if it didn't have anything near it but it'll look cooler.

Just a thought...

But the whole point of the retractable barrel is to localize the recoil to the barrel itself and not affect the housing, or in this case, the mount holding it to the ceiling. If you were to have a hydrolic mount to absorb the recoil, you'd have no need for the retractable barrel.
