Think you have a useful tutorial to add to this list? One or more of the links here dead? Send a private message to ProgZmax and let him know.
Edit: Did some judicious pruning to remove dead/obsolete links and off topic posts. Should streamline things and make it much easier to find what you want.
Special thanks to Venus for compiling this long list of tutorials and making sure they all work!

are there any tutorials on how to draw Darkness(tm) style art?
I've seen a lost posts about music composing, and people not sure how to do it. I suppose I'm in a lucky boat cause I'm an artist and a musician, but lots of good art tutorials... okay a ton! and they are gonna help out a lot. also the Gui Tutorial rocked Necro.
Okay so here are a few Music related Tutorials and Information sources for some softsynth programs. For those who don't know what soft Synth is, its short for Software Synthsizers. Which means it simulates samplers, keyboards, and programs like reason that give you a full Virtual rack.
http://www.synthzone.com/cubase.htm - It a link archive of some exellent and some mediocre Cubase links.
http://armadaelectro.free.fr/liste-ar.html - this is a great resource for Synth encoding, theory and lots more
http://www.webdevelopersjournal.com/studio/soft_synths.html - a good site that goes over some programs.
http://www.funk-station.co.uk/retutorials.htm - is a tutorial for reason, which I believe you can still get a trial copy of.
http://www.propellerheads.se/ - this is the home page for reason... check this program out. Reason2 is wonderful. I swear by them.
and finally if you want to listen to some of my musik I'm on mp3-dot-com under.. *gasp* phact0rri

With special thanks to MrColossal and Pessi for introducing these methods to me by posting in Farlander's topic a long, long time ago.
I love that "square" style.
To start, there are too many broken links here. Someone needs to clean them up. Also, I can't tell where one link ends & the titles are smashed into them equally badly. There needs to be a tutorial on how to post links next.
I didn't see any musical tutorials for games, does anyone have some?
a little thing on layers
(http://sylpher.com/kafka/junk/layersexplained.jpg)
1. The image.
2. The layers I used.
3. Visualize the layers as clear pieces of plastic that you're painting on and they rest on top of each other. That way you can easily edit things without disturbing the other parts of the image.
4. Like now I wanted to add a tree so I paint it on a new layer and just slipped it into place.
And my new image is done!

Time and work, bro to make EGA to VGA bkgs.

How about tutorials on Custom Save/Load GUIs? I can't get Necro's Link to work. And i'm asking for a Tutorial as opposed to A big block of Scripting to Chuck into the global, I've Tried using the GAC one but it's to much hassle.
my website http://www.falconmusic.tk has a (in the works) tutorial and mixing composing and mastering music on your computer.
You know, I think andail needs to update the first post, some has broken links.

It may be weird seen a hi res art teplate from ME, but here you go...
this is the VERY large( in IMAGE size not file size) verson that you first draw. it is done with the curve tool and the 2 line width marker for small details
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/3.gif)
and here it is after you copy it to Irfan view and did a 50%resize, with the RESAMPLE on.
Here is stage one of outer edge lighter colours removal, done inÃ, ms-paint
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/5.gif)
and here is stage two. Almost done!
And here is the done sprite, perfact for uploading into AGS
NOTES.You MUST copy the double line image in a EVEN number image size. That uses the least colours. And allows you to do the one-two unwanted edging removelÃ, the way I did.
AND here he is. M'Lud in Boxers! ;D
this is a template to show how i make hi res charactors, hope it helps.
here's my tutorial http://home.att.net/~zolgnar/grassyplane2.htm
it covers the making of: sky, distant mountains, and a grassy plane, and teaches you how to make an image pipe in GIMP.
Anyone who has music doubts can ask me... I'm no pro but I got some very compositions on a guitar site.

http://minyos.its.rmit.edu.au/~rpyjp/a_notes/anim_contents.html
Make sure to check the following link in that site; good references for front walkcycle are rare!

thanks this help us a bit :) but still don't know how to draw character.Increator said that that is more like a skill and it is skill but every skill in some point is learned from somewhere.Do anybody knows where to find character DRAW ??? tut. thanks for help ;D
I'm not really sure about drawing characters being a skill you can learn from a tutorial. I don't read drawing tutorials anyway, didn't go to school for art (Electronic Engineering), and I don't consider myself particularly gifted. To draw a really good character (I think) all you need is:
1. A really good idea (only imagination can provide this)
2. Alot of patience and dedication.
If you're really stuck for ideas, try to work out the size and detail you want and then look at some reference sprites that fit your requirements. I am not an advocate of paint overs, I don't feel you learn anything useful by drawing over someone else's work. Using it as a visual aid, however, can often be useful.
Photos/Other sprites are invaluable when you're starting out.
If you played my one room game The Find, the player character was the only bit I considered finished. And I drew his standing view (never seen in the game though) whilst looking intently at Boston Low from The Dig, as that was the type of character I wanted to draw.
If you're going low res, and it doesnt look right to you, play about with it. One pixel can make a pile of difference.
As a response to recent troubles with perspective with two viewpoints.
A little step-by-step 2 tutorial. It's rather self explanatory.

Was doing some research on how to add more detail to isometric pixel art, and found this: http://rhysd.syntesis.org/tutorial/.
Andail, your "Create an installation program for your game"-link does not work... :( :( http://www.xoing.com/member/bobjonesiscool14/tutorials/install.html
The "Create an installation program for your game" was one of my old tutorials from way back in the day. I found it and put it back online and found that it was a tad outdated. I will hopefully create a new one in the future, but here you go anyways.

For facial expressions, came across this interesting web-based app:
Artnatomia (http://www.artnatomia.net/uk/index.html)
Useful for seeing layers of muscle and skull in varying opacities as well as showing more basic common facial expressions. Even if not useful in specifics, reproduction would make an excellent drawing lesson.
maybe we should critizise the tutorial...??

Here's a pixel art tutorial I found while browsing around the net by a Derek Yu:

Scummbuddy, thanks! Looks quite helpful.
By the way, I have been going through the links in this tutorial for my own personal use, sorting them into categories and removing broken links and whatnot. At least half of the links are broken. Would it be appreciated if I posted a list of the reorganized links here on the AGS boards?
Edit 5/8/06 - I am done going through the links and I am just sorting them now. I'll have it done soon :)
I think that would be very helpful. Thanks! ^_^

Lots of useful stuff here; theories on puzzles, everything...

Bill Tiller, the guy who did backgrounds in CMI, wrote this about how he did them. VERY good read for anyone interested in any kind of art, not just art to do with games.

Much like the first site; lots of theories on game design, puzzle design, anything...

An interview with Bill Tiller; more stuff about his style and some nice pictures.

That's about it; hope it helps someone!
There is a new tutorial available on the FoY-page (http://www.barnettcollege.com/dkhtut.htm) since today. I wrote it and it discusses the creation of a PARTICLE-SYSTEM with AGS - also it gives you lots of information about programming with AGS and coding in general. Check it out if you're interested!
I hope it's okay to post "non-art related" tutorials here, but there are other tutorials around in this thread that talk about creating installers etc., so I thought it couldn't hurt!
whats going on with saveloomis.org i cant see any books there anymore. if anyone of u needs them i saved some so just ask me and ill host them for u.

Not sure how helpful this is, but I posted a few general drawing videos to my blog.

I intend to take videos of a lot of the things I draw from here on out. Might be of some use?
I made a random tips and tricks image..

Site revamped tuts need to be reloaded, sorry for inconvenience.
The first page of this thread should probably be edited 'cause none of the links work anymore :)
Yutzter: I was just clicking through all of them, noticed the same and was going to post a similar post like yours.
I could take a little project and gather working tutorials in a list. Unless I found some other topic/page where this job is already done. :)
Edit: Empty promise. But hopefully someone has the time and patiency to collect a working list some day.

Just wanted to spread this around... Not related to making game art but could potentially help people.
Eric
I don't use GIMP, but I'm thinking of trying it becasue I'm desperate to start making some shiny backgrounds and still have lost my copy of photoshop.
I know a lot of people here use it and I came across a website with a whole archive of tutorials for it.
http://www.gimptalk.com
It's got everything.
I think a Mod should go through this thread and find all the links that still work.
Delete the thread and start it agin with working only links.
This is barely helpful having to sort through all these links when so many dont work.

I made a beginner tips for first background and character with all walkcycles.
If anyone's interested, here it is:

Hope it helps anyone.
Thanks to Venus the first post has been updated with an exhaustive list of working tutorial links!
