Title: UPDATE: Wizard Character - New Views - 6.19.03
Post by: undergroundling on Thu 12/06/2003 01:25:46
Well, here's the character I'm creating for my upcoming game...

UPDATE:

I DESPERATELY need an animator who can animate some quality walking animations for this character.  I posted this over in T&C too, but haven't gotten too much interest in animation.

Anyways, here's his finished talking animation (thanks in part to N3TGraph)...

Let me know what you think of the character.  I'll update the thread with any new pictures of him I come out with.

you can try putting in more frames. starting from smile, to smile with teeth showing, to open...
Also the mouth open should look more like a smile  :D than and "O"  :o

good but too simple, try to put more frames witha  diferent mouth aperture, try to move the face too, it would be fine. 8)

I did include a bobbing head, but I don't know if that is good or not, anyway look at the mouth :)

It looks good, but the proportions bother me. His mouth is where his chin should be. I think you need to move the mouth and nose up about four or five pixels.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll get to work on a new animation shortly.

Ben: The proportions are supposed to look like that.  I realize they aren't realistic, but I was going for an exaggerated, cartoony style, thus the oversized head.

woah, i just noticed something i didn't before, i thought that bit which i assume is his mouth smiling was actually his chin and that he had a fat face becuase he looks kinda old, but now that i know it's his mouth he kinda looks a little goofy...

well, i was sorta going for "goofy."  the exaggerated proportions and slightly distored features make him look a bit more silly and oafish, which is the type of character he is.  besides, look at two of the most famous characters, larry laffer and guybrush threepwood.  larry had a gigantic head and guybrush (in MI3) had some very distorted features.

but anyways, i wasn't really going for realistic.

oh well, may not be everyone's cup o' tea i guess, but I like it and thats all that matters, right?

I think you could make his lower part of the face move a bit, you know, when you speak you dont move just the lips, the jaws(sp?) moves, the cheecks moves, etc.

I love it! The side view is less appealing than the front view, maybe if you connect the smile through the moustache... Love N3T's talking animation too!

I've updated this with a new talking animation, check it out and let me know what you think.  I used the basic idea behind N3TGraph's animation and just altered it to suit me better.

Neole: Not sure if you were confused by the picture, but the little line above the moustache is supposed to be a cheekbone, not his mouth  :-\  With the new character pics (with the borderless style like in the talking animation) its more clear.

Thanks for your input!

thanks for using my talking anim, it is my first :P

I think it looks okay, but you need to edit the sideview a bit, it looks like he's hiding his woody or something :)

Yeah I had thought that was the mouth. But with the black line gone it will be clear.

I've updated with all the new views.

And yes, I know he's shorter in the side views, that's already been taken care of.  Didn't realize it until after I'd already put this pic up.  But hey, we all make mistakes.

N3TGraph:  I intended for him to look slighly hunched over, like he was a little older and had a bad back maybe.  I see your point though, but I can't be bothered to go fix it.  I think it'll look fine in the game.
