hi. please tell me what you think of this background.

Nice, but I have a suggestion.
I know its a padded room and its supposed to be plain, but maybe add some shadows or something to the walls?
I think the door should be padded as well
I really like it. maybe pad the door and add shadow like was said.
It depends what kind of atmosphere you are looking for.
What sort of game is it? What is supposed to happen in the room?
Right now it strikes me as a cartoon background, because of the oversized buttons and the lack of moody lighting. A real padded cell wouldn't have buttons.
I don't think it would fit in very well as a regular room in a full game, because of the unusual camera angle.
It's quite boring too, but I guess that's what you'd expect of a padded cell. Perhaps you could straighten up the camera angle and put some detail up out of reach of the prisoner. Lighting, ducts, wiring, windows, rafters, cows' nests, that sort of thing.
an update

That reminds me of my first background (http://falloutmodding.republika.pl/cell601.png)!
ye but which do you think looks better? the one with the padded door, or the one with the metal door?
First of all:
Very nice! :)
Second:
The two doors looks geat, but the padded one fits better.
Third:
Well I made a (REALLY) quick paintover with PAINT at work (so don't blame :'()). I think the straight lines of the walls and floor must show some tap as well. And you could ajdust the merging point (blue circle on my paintover).
Hope it helps.

The padded door looks good, but it needs a slot near the floor. If s/he is so dangerous they need to be in a room like this one, the hospital staff should be able to feed him/her without opening the door. ;)
thanks for the replys. i think i'll just let you all know that this background is for the opening cutscene and will only be shown for way less than a minute. fine details don't matter too much (not at the moment anyway.)
here's a concept drawing for a character.

heres the character in the cell:

A minute is a very long time in a cutscene. Anyways, correct the room edges like dsg_charly said, add a feeding slot like pslim said and try to come up with a more interesting and balanced color scheme on the character. Also, add some shadowing for atmosphere and mood.
Looks good so far :D.
Looks great!
dsg said it already, but what the heck. All edges should be padded. That goes for floor/wall corners and door edges as shown on his paintover.
It looks a bit weird with the wall "buttons" greyish, and the floor ones are more black.
I like the stain of unknows liquids, but in some places it seems unneccesary smudged out.
Maybe a security camera? And a hatch for food and freshly refreshingly stravberry beverages that make me feel like i can fly... Mommy?!
This is a very likeable background. Having seen your character I'd go with the metal door because it's a funnier contrast with the padded room.
Two points though:
I thought the shape on the bed was some kind of cloth, but since it is being the button, it must be a stain? The fact that it has an outline looks odd and it seems inconsistent with the rest of the image. I don't think it's necessary.
Game bgs often have a large floor area because the characters need to walk around a lot. If you are creating backdrops for a cutscene you could try using more dramatic, cinematic camera angles. This looks great, it's just something to bear in mind.
I like the metal door better than the padded one too. Sure it's not as realistic, but judging from your character I don't think you're going the serious route ^_^.
I think the door's a bit small relative to the character, though.

true, but the character will be smaller in game, i just pasted the guy on the pic to give ppl an idea of what it's goin to look like. good eye for detail tho, no one else noticed ;)
here's the reception:

Alrite, now this is COOL. Though one thing.
I know someone'd do this anyway, so I'll save them the trouble: (http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/5508/mentalinstitutereception1et19y.png)
The perspective is odd. At this point the table seems to be unstable, and the monitor would fall. Then the rectangles, the corners are too steep, too hard, you know. It's like the window and the board would be samller at the wall and then go wider when they come out of it.
And the last rectangles there under. The rounded table casts a shadow that has a corner init. :)
But I love the colours, and one might not find these errors very disturbing. Make your own assumptions

oh yeahÃ, :-[ i know why i missed that. i originally had a straight corner then changed it to a rounded corner. i'll make some corrections and post an update.
EDIT: heres the update:

Hi,
I think the Front Light (the one up the "RECEPTION" sign) is misplaced, comparing to the others one in the corridor which are centered and aligned. I hope it's understandable.
Try to add some shadowing.
Even though great style, it's very well drawn.
I think you've got a nice clean style and I'd not go overly crazy with the shadows.
The wrong perspective of the foreground (desk etc.) is not that noticeable in my opinion, but the perspective of the hallway leading to the exit is way of (as Tuomas has already shown you). The eye automatically gets drawn to it, although the exit should not be the main focus.
I also think the ceiling could be doing with a darker shade and the walls with some more features.
I've done a little paintover to give you some pointers:
Apart of some incorrets vanashing points, everything seems good to my mind.
i've thought about adding potted plants or something. im just trying to imagine what the reception of a mental institute would look like
the color of the line looks rather weird IMO, maybe make it dark purple
i think the exit door is too small.
considering the height of where the message board is, and that it seems to be at an eye level(taking into account the size of the computer, etc) the exit door should be bigger
the rest looks very nice
im gonna make some changes and add some things see how it looks. i'll post back soon wiv an update.
here's an update. i sketched in a camera but i haven't coloured it yet. wat do you think? shud i leave it in?

Is it just me or does the pink line seem...weird. It's probably because it doesn't have an outline... Like the camera though. :)

Same thing, the pink is something strange.
Regarding the camera, looking good.
a quick update:

I think the camera angle is not very useful to the watchmen.
Indeed, maybe point it towards the door etc. where the receptionist can't see. It's a bit crooked as well, isn't it.
Oh, and what also came to mind is, that what I've seen mental asylums, the receptionists are often behind this if not a glass or a plastic, a counter, which is the case here. Yet the computer for example is ALWAYS so that an outsider can't see it. Maybe you could turn it a bit. Oh, and add an internal asylum phone or something. Where I live, receptionists are always in this box and yuo speak to them through this window... And then, colours like green and white are mostly used in such places due to the calm and clean effect they are considered to have. Just some things that came to my mind, think about them, and hmm, the perspective still bothers me a bit.

What is this, a spot the difference contest? Move on.
i changed the angle of the camera as pointed out by ranchero and tuomas.
now please kindly go fourth and multiply (f*** off) and make way for some helpfull and useful comments.
Hey man please dont take offence he was just pointing out that there are alof versions of this pic in the tread when really you could just update it when there are more suggestions
Here is what I think you should do with the camera animate it have it pan looking down both hallways
It's not like I'm an expert at coloring but this method seems to work for me using Photoshop.
I first put the "hue/saturation" filter on the top layer (with the saturation set to zero)(so the pic is seen as grayscale). Then I adjusted the lightness/darkness of EACH color using the hue/saturation masks to try and balance the values. I then tweak the hue and saturation.
Here's a few variations I came up with. I hope they can give you some ideas.
grayscale (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/drawken/01_grayscale.jpg)
green (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/drawken/01_green.jpg)
purple (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/drawken/01_purple.jpg)
