Title: View from motorboat
Post by: Rd27 on Fri 23/02/2007 23:25:39
I was just doing some experiments and trying different technics and this was the result.
What do you think? I feel that there is something missing, but what???

Nice. Reminds me a bit of Half-Life 2.

Heh, that's funny, as it reminds me of Far Cry.

Yes, it's made with terragen. I have also used Paint shop pro with this image.

I like this, but I have a few suggestions:

The distant hills are very sharp, but the boat in the foreground is rather soft. I guess the speedboat is a photograph. You could try softening the background image, without significantly blurring, to help them blend.

You could add aerial perspective (http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9003869/aerial-perspective) to help the scene look a little more realistic. That would mean subtly tinting areas a pale blue the further away they are from the camera. Terragen may have a mist feature that would create the same effect.

I like the orange, but the saturation is very high and the image is almost monochrome. I don't think you should throw any more colours at the image, but you could lower the saturation of the higher tones.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think that I try to improve this picture tomorrow when I come from work.

Damn! I just realised that I don't have the file in terragen mode anymore  :-[. So I can't really try that mist feature for it.

However I tried to do other little improvements for the picture. I'm just not sure if it was a step forward or backward?
