Title: W.I.P Toon BG Style
Post by: Nixxon on Mon 29/09/2003 13:02:06
Tell us what you all think of this?
Still requires a lot of back/fore ground detail to be implemented, wanted to get an some C&C on the initial style before i got too carried away.
i.e - Perspective is too intense, colours are too vivid etc.
Thank yee all :D

See, here is an example where perpsective does not matter.  When looking at it, we are not having our eyes gouged out by it hurting.  This is a beautiful piece of art.  Keep up the style, please.  This is one type that I know we all appreciate.  A little more background on how you do it would be lovely.  I would probably add more shadow beneath the higher windows facing us.  And is this scene supposed to give us a sad feeling, the way the windows and the big window look like a frowny face, makes me sad, so if this were to set the scene for an upcoming sad scene or something, then it would be better.

Thanks scummbuddy :)
Funnily enough apon showing it to a friend a few days ago he replied "lol, it's a sad house". It's actually the abode of a somewhat lazy gentleman so perhaps the lazy/sad notations have some correlation?
The initial house I had done some weeks ago, I spent the last couple of days working on color variations, mainly the green window tinting and the purple frame work... the windows are supposed to reflect a drab suburban late night environment.
Thanks again, ill keep updating the image as it progresses.

Woah...one sweet DOTT-style image you got there! I love this style, it's sweet and smooth and looks wacky. Now, as I almost always say, i'd love to see if you could make a character with the same sorta style. You'll need to make sure it's got top notch animation to make the backgrounds actually work. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, and i'm looking forward to more!

Good work IbeX! Now go steal me fresh jam! (http://www.spike-domain.net/fcwaonline/modules/Forums/images/smiles/wink.gif)
(BTW, you seriously earned that white thing).

Cheers Keiko!
hurls jar of cherry (hand made) jam...
As for characters, here's a sneak peak. Havn't delved into animation yet, using flash though so it shouldn't provoke too much tourment.

Ok, your one of those people that are always saying their art sux when they are 10x better than the person reading the message and looking at it (that'd be me).

That character also shows the great DOTT-style. It reminds me of a mix between Bernard and the evil Ederson guy that I can't think of the whole name of.

Anyways, thanks for the jam! :D

Woah, keiko- how is that character of yours NOT a rip off of Homestar?  Has this issue been addressed? perhaps it is homestar and I just haven't kept up with a recent zombie episode...

but than again, it has your name on it, and as a person who puts artwork on the internet-  I feel somewhat obligated to point this situation out.

1. It is homestar, I have no plans to actually use it in a game and it's an old picture.

And as I said in my topic about this, If I do put it in a game, I said i'll slowly be moving away from the HSR look...

Omg :o

I have one request: Write a tutorial! That's an awesomely cartoonish style that I would love to be able to acheive.
How do you do the anti aliasing so smoothly? Are you using flash? If so, how do you import anti aliased chars or backgrounds without it looking messed up? Sorry for all the questions ;)

About the background: There is a big chunk of grey on the left that has no shading or anything, and looks a bit weird.

Yeah it bothers me too, as i stated there's a lot of back/fore ground detail to be implemented, I'm still working on the bg and will post an updated version in a few days.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I'll try and get a tutorial happening soonish :D
