Title: Walk Cycle Animator
Post by: BaronXooper on Sun 20/11/2016 20:49:00
Hey everyone! I really don't need much, it's just that I've been working trying to make a walk cycle for the past couple hours but I can't seem to get it done. The sprite is very simple, in fact here's the idle animation (it isn't perfect either)

I don't need a permanent animator (although if you'd like to do that, that's fine!) I just need help with this walk cycle.

(Bonus points if you know what this is based on  )

Think it's probably easy to criticize/give suggestions if you show how your walk cycle isn't working...
I like the idle animation, looks cute :)

If you just want non specific help, then there are plenty of threads in the forum about making walk cycles...

I'm very sorry, I'm very new to pixel art and the AGS forums! I've been doing AGS stuff for a couple years, but I started pixel art a few days ago.

Here's the walk cycle I have right now. I'm trying to keep it kinda bouncy.

Well, onle thing that springs to the eye immediately is his chest/shirt that shrinks and grows... that makes him look like a harmonica or made of jelly...
keep his chest steady. just like you have in the idle animation, it goes up and down as a block, and that's what it should do here too.

That might fix the biggest problem with it.

You can also try to bend his knees a bit more, but might not even be needed once you fix the above problem.

static animation: if you make the hair go up and down, I suggest you also make the arms bend up and down (more cartoony)
walking animaiton: like Cassie said: make the chest of constant height, but make it move up and down.
