Title: Watchman+Grim Reaper (Finished? Some chance!! ))
Post by: Cluey on Sun 29/08/2004 21:07:52
This is a new person, it supposed to be a member of the undead police forces night watch service, but this guy acts as a guide that leads new souls to the nearby harbour town.

Tell me what you think, this is the style I've chose for the characters.

i like it because i looks like he has no face...except for his mouth...and to make him look more undead maybe remove the arms and have him cross them. I love the eyes...they look so narrowing like everyones a suspect.

shade it a bit more, like you did to that place under the belt or whatever.
Clothes aren't that smooth :P

Thanks, I did it just a little, to keep it simple, and it looks ace, I also changed the background colour so he's easier to see:

EDIT: I change his robe a little..

Very nice. I dig how you have managed to convey his facial expression with basically just a dot and a line. It really gets through.

Creepy! Well done.

I don't know if he is flying or walking but anyway, maybe his cloak should not end like a tied up sack, but rather like a swaying curtain. Just a thought that came to my mind.

Quick edit.
1. Added more shading to the hood.
2. He is standing, so I fixed the "sack" thing, thanks Albert for pointing it out..

Very Loom'y. Good!
If you're able to keep the detail during animations, It would be really neat.

...but about improvements... I think he (she?) needs:

* a butt
* second eye
* more & wider shape around stomach area and under it
* a bit shorter feet
* more detail on hands (a thumb, at least)
* a bit more realistic wrinkles on his robe
...so overall, more shape

* It would be also cool to see at least a little bit of shoes from under the robe
I could also give few suggestions about the face but somehow it looks perfect as it is. With this style you have there.

Some good points there, but this guys a wraith (kinda like Raziel), so he aint go alotta meat on him, being dead.
Also I'm trying not to make him look to realistc as then he wouldn't look right when put next to the other characters, which are drawn at the same style.
Edit, I added a bit more to the hands:

And again with 2 eyes

I would if he was the Grim Reaper, but unfortuatly the Grim Reaper doesn't really like to lend people his scyth, not since the lawsuit incident..

New Grim Reaper Dude, its kind of a theme, the hooded idea, not everyone in the game is gonna look like this :)
If you think his Staff is too much, I did a less "holy crap" version:

Happy, critisize away!

Very nice, but I don't like the look of the faces, where does the light come from???

I tried something but failed miserably, but just to point out my opinion, I'll post it anyhoo

How about just making the eyes shine? Perhaps it's too much cliché.

Also, that doesn't really look like a scythe...more like some sort of pick-axe

Scythe:

I think the first version of the scytche is very stylistic, the second one looks dull.

Very nice characters! Great style, I love it.

There, I've conformed to your scyth RULES!!

I really like your characters, and the new scythe is great!
IMO the reaper might look even better if you make him a little darker and give him some thin, bony arms? Also the angle of his head/hood seems a bit wrong compared to the body. Looking at the hood, it seems like he's looking straight at me, but his face is slightly turned away.

Man, these characters are great!

I think you should keep the first on the Grim Reaper. He's way more evil!
I also agree with YOke on the arms. It would also look more naturel if he had the scyth in his hands instead of on his back!

N3tGraph: The light obviously comes from the Grim Reaper's evil eye!

Amazing work!

Also, as a prep for a lil pixel project, and cos I like Pixel art, I drew this pretty picture!  Its the first guy.

I really like your characters, but I have a few issues with the sycthe. I love the holy crap version, but there are some issues.

Firstly, the handle should have a double bend.
The blade should be sharp enough to cut light and sound.
It should be thin enough to see through, and should eminate sharpness, so that things get cut without touching it.

Pratchett fans know what I'm talking about.

I'm not 100% positive about his, but don't sythes usually have a handle (or two) of some sort sticking out of their side?

Keep in mind that the real ones were meant to be used the cut grass/ wheat and the handle really helps you pivot the things.

http://galleryone.co.uk/html/george_gourley.html (see especially "In The Meadow")
http://members.aol.com/micus6/Sythe.html
http://www.bondsauctions.com/labday/pages/101-0162_IMG.html

Still, the sythe without the handles is used in stylistic representations of Death's sythe all the time, so it's all up to up you.

Double curvature with a hand hold at the side for some horizontal action baby.
