This is a room I've just made for my new game.
What do you think? It is hand-drawn (meaning with a pen on a paper) and computer colored.
No matter about emptiness. I'm going to fill it with objects and stuff.

P.S. Does anybody knows what "abysmal" means???
I can't see it.
Abysmal means something like very, very deep.

Page has exceeded its data transfer limit.. We must be able to see the picture within the hour .
"Abysmal" has to do with "abyss". Deep is one side of it, disastrous and scary ;) is another. "Deep" as in "very very low".

In that sense abysmal means very bad (i.e. "Your grammar is very bad")
Well the pic is ok ... for a beginner ...
1. The perspective everywhere is very off - try looking at a tutorial or something. (Check out the tutorials thread).
2. You're using a tiled texture on everything that doesn't look too good ... try variating a bit.
3. The window lacks depth,
4. Is this resolution really necessary for this kind of style? Think about lowering it as no-one will download your game if the file size is too big (unless it's extremely good, like Apprentice II).
5. The lines are a bit wobbly and the general layout of everything doesn't seem to be complimenting each other ...
6. The room should also be a lot wider!
Sorry for being so harsh, but that's how you get better man.
Answering to your question, Bijulinus: it's not so bad, but personally I prefer some different styles.
Things I'd change:
- upper part of your picture looks like a big hole in the cellar with a paralax sky above (texture needs some perspective / cellar needs something like a wooden beam)
- draw some landscape behind the window or just a glass reflection
- door seems a bit too small, furniture -- unpractical (add a drawer to the desk + some chair near and think over the bed position -- look at the shelves and you'll catch the sense)
- some lighting would be appreciated (you can also add a turned off lamp for practical sense), it means shadows as well
Phew... that'd be everything. Don't worry, I must have forgotten about something, for sure... ;)
Oh, and at the end... Speaking of perspective, this time I agree with Zor. ;) You should seek for some one-point perspective tutorials and make a correct issue.
Well... don't give up, good luck with your bg!

Wrote a little tutorial. Don't know if it makes any sense though - I think I rambled on a bit.
Anyway, enjoy.
