Which BG Style?

I don't know if it's a trick of the shading or whatever, but the 6 compartments on the right look to be different sizes. The bottom left looks larger than the top right.

Much, much better. Very charming background you have there. Make sure to add a footpath, of course, and you've got a beautiful clean background.

I think it's a big improvement. The aliasing of the line on the awning still bothers me a bit. Maybe if you used some different colors, like a beige color on the edge of the white stripes and a lighter red color as highlight on the red it wouldn't seem so sharp.

Hey! newbie here! this is my first post, btw.  You're the reason I registered on the forum.  I just felt strongly toward one of the options.    After reading the responses you have gotten and see the path you are taking, I don't know if it will matter much, however.

I think your 1st bg represents the type of style that I hold dear to me in any type of artform.  It looks original.  The 2nd one looks photoshopped, which is fine, and admittedly a lot more functional when you come to the point of implementing walk-behind areas and such.

But if you can pull off the style of the 1st one in your game, I would say, do it without hesitation.  I wish I could do that.

Alas, my bg's come out looking more like the 2nd one, if that good.  So I have to say great job as well.  Your updated 2nd bg is looking really nice.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to playing your game.

Thank you for all the nice comments! I am still working hard on the background. However, I think that it will take quite some time until the game will be finished.

@happytree: the style of background one is very easy to do, the whole background took me perhaps 2 hours but I realized that it would not be the best for the game. I am very satisfied with the style I am using now.
