Title: YOke vs characters - an uphill battle *UPDATE*
Post by: YOke on Wed 20/10/2004 01:58:41
Anyone of you I've ever talked to at some length have propably been confronted with my lack of enthusiasm when it comes to drawing characters. I have now decided to try and remedy this to some extent. After all I want to make a game, and all you people seem too busy/lazy to draw the characters for me. :P
I made the following character today, copying a style I've sketched out on paper for some time now. Just thought I'd "throw it to the wolves" before I get too fond of it. As the expression goes: Kill your babies.
So that's what I want you to do now. Kill my baby.

*UPDATE*
Fixed the legs. Some on the upper body, and the neck. Fire away all over again.

Paintovers are welcome.
(I know the legs are akward, updates will follow.)
(They actually already have.)

The legs are awkward.Ã,  ;D

No, it's a nice character. It reminds me slightly of the "Gobliiins" series.
Some posters will tell you to add more shading, but that is a personal choice, I think. Some shading would round out the character but if you keep it flat coloured it could be a style decision motivated by your lack of enthusiasm.Ã,  ;)

The only thing you may *need* to change is his hands. The one visible one seems very small. Otherwise, it's a pretty cool character.

I just sort of exagerated what you already have. Ã, I shifted his eyes downward by a pixel and added a shadow under the eyelid too. Ã, didn't quite stay within the pallette!

The burgeoning bulge has got to go!  Straighten the left leg, and put his heels to the ground and he will look a lot more relaxed in his posture.

Well... I followed the advise of a tutorial that said I should observe myself in a mirror...  ;D
Actually the whole body was thrown on as an afterthought, but I liked the way the upper body turned out.
I'll fix the legs as soon as I get back from work.

Neutron: liked what you did to the eyes. I will find a way to implement that.
James Kay: Regarding the shading... I'll try to add some more wrinkles and such in his clothes, but I can't go too detailed with regards to my backgrounds.

Thanks for all the good advice. Keep it coming! :)
