I am trying to find a good free (Word) doc to pdf converter... well, finding one is easy, there are lots and lots, but each one seems to have some drawback or quirk... so before I install a lot of software, does anyone here have any experience with a good converter?
What I need is something simple, all I want to do is convert some quite long documents (50 pages+) into pdf format. They are mostly text, but with some fancy formatting and some embedded images.
Thanks in advance!

OpenOffice? Google Docs?
Microsoft Office - Word 2000 docs.
(I didn't even know Google has its own docs...)
Just find any pdf printer drivers and print the doc as a pdf :)

The appropiately-named "PDF Creator" should work fine.
Exactly (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/)
As mentioned most office apps can export/print/save as PDF, its just not usually in the same save menu as the other formats.
PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com) print driver works great for me!
And there's also CutePDF Writer (http://www.cutepdf.com/), which has a freeware version which has worked really well for me.
Thanks a lot, everyone! Turns out PrimoPDF really has all I need, so hooray for rharpe. I just feel better when someone has already used some program and can recommend it.
Yeah, Primo is adequate for most stuff. Because of the nature of my job I once searched hard for free "print-to-PDF" drivers and I had installed and tried several of them. Eventually I only use Primo.
Woohoo! Glad to help Ghost!
