have you checked your sound settings? Midi's are on a whole different channel than wavs and what not, the channel may be muted, or the volume turned off... check that first.

the idiot way:
try searching for a program called "win groove", it'll change the whole midi thing to better instruments.  it'll need a crack, too.  this got my thing working, but i'm stuffed if i know how to get it back to what the original thing was.  it still sounds kinda nifty, tho.

the slow, but less bridge-burning way:
wait for someone else's help

Yeah, I had the same problem happen on my computer 'bout a week ago, now. I rebooted it like 4 times to see if it would just fix itself, and it didn't, so I just gave up on it and left the computer. About two hours later I decided to have another crack at it, but found that the it had somehow fixed itself. No one else touched the computer in between times, so I'm blown if I know what went on. I just hope your comp. does the same thing.

All the best.

I had this problem about a year ago.  I couldn't get certain sounds to play, some played with static, some played fine.

What was the solution?

A perfect question.

I went to the local computer store (I believe it was CompUSA) and bought a 15 dollar cheap-o sound card.  It's worked a charm ever since.

When all else fails ... spend money :)  It sounds to me like the sound card(s) are defective if you're having all this trouble.  I must add a disclaimer:  Darth Mandarb is the farthest thing from a hardware expert.
