Hello, My Name is Joshua Sinclair, or Lo_Res_Man as I am known here.
I am looking for some one to redesign my blog. Someone who knows html and is a rather good graphic artist as well. I have good idea what I want, just not how to do it. I like the basic construction of it, but I would like some added features that only html can provide. As well I would like a graphical overhaul. Though the design is sound, millions of others I am sure use the same template. SO I want something new, different. If interested please post relevant examples of your work. As well as time goes on I will go into more detail of what it is I want. As well we can discuss payment options. We can do barter and trade, I do some work for you and you do some work for me etc. Or payment by check or money order. Sorry I can't do Paypal, don't have a credit card. Thank you for your time and I hope we can reach a mutually satisfactory agreement.
Yours Truly

Well, FYI:

Html is really, I mean REALLY easy to learn. I got it in one week completely. Its usage is easy. So I would recommend anyone to do it him/herself. Because when you know what you are doing, it turns out really better.
Second, html is really limited. It does not have many functions, but if the site is really only informational, it may be sufficient.

It may be very difficult to make a blog interesting, because one must come with really good ideas (at this part I suck).

Maybe you could give us some more info on the features you want etc etc so everyone can decide wheter they would do it or not.
Some time ago, I made a site where I post videos, photos and quotes from our class, it is basically an "unofficial class site". The design sucks because it is made for pure functionality, here: http://cvokhaus-gymtilba.ic.cz/ (It is in slovak, but you can see what is what actually).

I used only html and a bit of php for mailing list, and I made RSS. Everything else is customized open-source. It is a demostration of what html can('t) do.

Yes, html is simple to learn, but writing good, cross browser (x)html and css is a much more complicated task. It wouldn't be as complicated if all browsers (well, mostly IE) adhered strictly to the standards and didn't try to invent their own.

Why would xhtml and css not suffice for all your web design needs? Check some of the examples here before you answer. I realise you might be talking about using pure html (<= html4) for design which is admittedly a Bad Ideaâ,,¢. Happily that's something no sane web designer would attempt in this day and age.

I am no big expert, but not a total noob. I have seen amazing pages done using css and html. Css is more difficult than html, that is true.

By "limited" I was targeting the functionality. Like no forms, logins etc etc.
Thus I said that if the site is informational, it is sufficient.

It may be bigger challenge to write good pure html/css site than to make good site in whatever else. But I would recommend anyone to make the site himself. It is 200% better than to let someone do it for you. There are tons of tutorials, some people even do all their websites in flash (which is easy to some extent).

It all depends on how much time does the person have and how excited he/she is about making it him/herself.

Thanks for all the input, I guess your right, if I want my website to be good, I got to do it myself. Coders AHOY! And if anyone has any tips on what they think could be improved, just pm or post here.

Doing it yourself IS the best option, and since you're going to do that, I'll give you a good site which will save your ass many times (as it did mine many, many times): http://www.w3schools.com/

It's a very nice site, easy to understand with examples, and generally a life saver :)

Have I mentioned it saves asses and perhaps even lives?
Still here.

lo_res_man

Thankyou so much, looks like a very useful site, thanks again.

This is also very useful, mainly for flash, but also for other things:

*some people do their sites in flash completely, that is also an option that has to be considered  ;)

Text-based sites (like blogs) should never be made in flash completely.

GarageGothic

In general Flash should be avoided unless it's absolutely necessary for the functionality of the website. Although Jacob Nielsen's article on the usability nightmare of Flash is a few years old, most of his points are still valid.

One main disadvantage of flash site-making is, that you need a flash player plugin.
This disadvantage is huge in my opinion, so I would never do a flash-only website. But it is an option. Anyway, if JimmyShelter says, than I would trust him  ;)
