Title: 11-11-11 the magical date :D
Post by: Mouth for war on Mon 31/10/2011 20:53:53
It's sooo close now but still so far away. Anyone else going nuts waiting for The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim? I've been watching all trailers countless of times and everytime I see them it's like my boner's got a boner :D I can probably kiss my social life goodbye for quite a while when I get my hands on that damn game!

I am going to pre-order from Amazon on Friday if it's not too late. I cannot wait. I am taking a 1/2 day off work on 11-11-11.

Also been back to playing Oblivion to keep my Elder Scrolls Cravings satisfied.

I preordered the collector's edition and bought a new computer so I can play it!
Goodbye social life (the little that I had) and welcome Skyrim!

I AM DOVAHKIIN!

Skyrim: yes!
Magical date: no.
We invented both numbers and calendar. We can at any moment change calendar, say it's not 11.11.11 but 1.0.1 and call it lol-day or whatever. Or go hexadecimal with time keeping.
So the number holds no magic at all.
Skyrim, I hope, does. Although Skyrim looks alot less pretty than Tamriel seen in Oblivion. I hate crappy snow and my whole country will look like Skyrim in matter of weeks. Why do I have to experience it in 3D also?
It was summer all the time in Oblivion :) except for Bruma mountains, which I didn't like anyway.

I like snow ;D

However, Oblivion sucked. A few side quests were pretty good, but the main quest was boring as hell. Apart from the graphics and the city's architectural designs, which were appealing to me, I didn't like it and fear that Skyrim won't be much of an improvement storytelling-wise.

I spent 200+ hours on Oblivion, and I'll at least double that for Skyrim. Bethesda are one of the best big game developers, I also cannot wait for Fallout 4. :D Oblivion's main quest arc had massive shortcomings. It was very tiresome towards the end, and people would thank me for closing gates to Oblivion which I never even bothered to shut. The Shivering Isles expansion pack was a major improvement on the main quest, recommended if nobody bought it. It might be old (in gaming terms it's old) but still well worth it!

Bethesda yeah somehow can immerse you into RPG story without making quest list a damn excel table and not throwing billion unknown lore elements at you. I mean, Oblivion is probably first RPG whose story I could follow easily and understand most of it. Even simpler than Diablo. Dragon Age was so-so. But other games usually give you 500 fantasy names and story behind them with first quest description/dialogue, at which point, I'm unable to follow nor care.

Fallout? How can anyone like fallout I don't understand. What makes you want to wander around rusted tin cans and car wrecks? Those are definitely not lovely forests of oblivion... S.T.A.L.K.E.R at least made wastelands look mysterious and Warsaw pact weapons made it all feel awesome. Fallout... I guess it's not for me. Also, I hope 30's/50's "stylish" cyberpunkish design porn dies out before next fallout/bioshock is made. It's a one-trick pony.

As is 'dark castle', 'pseudo-medieval cities' and 'mysterious brotherhood of thieves'. It's all the same shit, after all. But as if no one likes to play the same shit over and over again.
To each their own, I guess.

Well, I think the themes can be used endlessly but for modern games the story runs a bit thin. In that case all you're left with are the visuals and they tend to get boring as they use the same references I guess.

I pre-ordered it today!!! ( PS3 version)

I do happen to own a 52 inch TV - ( I'm shallow... and I like playing games:) )  so it's gonna be great to play it on a console!

Not really excited by snowy landscapes...  but I'm sure they'll pull it off. And it might be a nice change after a tropical island Banoi from Dead Island ;) For me these games are more about interaction with people and problem solving. And stealing. I did a lot of stealing in Oblivion... ;)

Big fan of both Oblivion and Fallout 3 here!!!

Steam says "This product is unavailable in your region"
??? ??? ???

Meh, back to torrents... I guess Bethesda doesn't want my money  >:(
All this hype for nothing... Go get em Skidrow  :(
So much about being proud and honest fan. I feel sad to do this.

All this talk of Skyrim and no love for Uncharted 3?

Uncharted 3 does everything perfect, it's like watching an Indiana Jones flic. A full engaging story where the characters are the focus, they completely surpass any attempt at character development in a current gen title to date, plus it's incredible cinematic, it's like nothing else!

I too am looking forward to Skyrim, but i'm not looking forward to their ugly faces, lack of emotion and masses of side quests. ):

I have little interest in Skyrim (not enough for a day one purchase anyway, I may check it out down the road.)

On 11/11/11 I will be watching the FUCK out of This Is Spinal Tap though.

Ok. so I killed my first dragon (although they're not dragons, but more of a wyvern, but whatever) and I was totally unsuited for it.

First of all in that same plane I saw a giant and tried to kill it (well it's only twice as tall as me) and after one hit I got my arse quickloaded and slowly backed away. So I thought the dragon's gonna kill me instantly...not so, but damn thing flies and lands randomly so even though I had runes I couldn't use them, also I'm sort of a one handed sword with the other hand healing magic type Imperial (I wanted to be a destruction and blade guy but you'll die rather fast that way because even early enemies can take a lot of your health with a hit) and if I used the bow I would a) die rather fast cause I wasn't healing and b) not do that much damage
I tried to run to the dargon but it would fly away before I got to it until (and I think this was largley scripted) it finally landed and I slashed it a couple of times, then a bright light and suddenly I'm the dragonborn...

Chaning weapons/spells is not very streamlined and I still haven't found out why I don't get more infromation on missions, you get a mission (which I listen but I can't remember everything) and in the mission log it just has 1 freaking line of text and sometimes there's not even a location mentioned. And you are bombarded by mission (not bad in itself) but you can't remember everything.

What madness is this? Residential Green's continuation was ignored due to something as trivial and small as Skyrim?
I feel offended, good Sir's, deeply offended!  ;)
