Hey, Im new to game creation and have only really started coz a friend needs music and sound effects, I have a copy of Cubase LE and am soon buying Reason 3.0. I was just wondering what software others use for creating sound, is there a free downloable software which is good? Or do people generally use loops and samples. Any input would be good. Thanking you in advance, Ben.

I use Audacity! It is free to download and has alot of nice features! Great for recording!

Thanks, Ive downloaded and it looks to be a good program for sampling from CD or voice, which im impressed with coz i needed somethin like that also, but i still need something to use for creating sound FX, any ideas?

If you google "sound fx" or something simmilar to that with the word free next to that you might find a lot of sites that offer free sound fx.

What I personally did a couple of years ago was that I went to a big CD store and bought 3-4 CDs with sound fx. Actually I never had any problem since then. I have covered most sounds I will ever need and with the help of any audio programm I can manipulate them to my needs (time stretch, pitch shift, some plug-ins, stuff like that)

EDIT: Just checked your other thread.

Since you are going to be spending money for music, why not buy some software?
It isn't long ago that Cubase 3 (SX, SE, or LE) have been released, as well as Logic 7. Since you live in England go check turnkey for some good offers. Also Absynth 2.0 would be a rather good idea for making weird synth sounds. And MAX (but this is for live sound manipulation), as well as Reaktor, by Native instruments.

But all the above cost. My Edit comes because I saw that you are willing to spend some money...so...

You will find tons of free stuff (as well as commercial ones...)

i'm a tracker, so I use Modplug Tracker's old version. Imagine it like you're placing WAV samples in a sequencer with different pitches and some effects, and you get the idea of what modules are.

Absynth 3.0 has come out, and it is much sexier than version 2.  I use various amounts of synths and vsts for music.  And I must admit Reason 3 kick ass over the previous version, I never really liked Reason until the new version.

There are tons of free VSTs on the net, just do a google search.
