Um...me and this other lady ended up winning. (http://www.livelyivy.com/?p=102) And some of the press has been ridiculous.
I've also been getting some weird congratulatory calls from old school friends. As I keep saying, it could be any Erin Robinson they're talking about...
Nice work! Well done for turning something that could be a very awkward game indeed into something pretty funny ;).
Maybe this new fame and fortune will let you afford to host your avatar properly ;)
To paraphrase Abba: Does your mother know that you won?
And did you, as a winner, take it all?
G-D-C you doing well :) Enjoyed reading the CNN article!!
Congratulations, Ivy,
It's really great to see talented members of the community getting the recognition that they deserve. Your creativity is pretty obvious, and now you have a huge media whirlwind to prove it. I actually heard about this story a little while back, but didn't realize that it was you. Awesome.
So now it's your responsibility to keep the momentum going. Since you have some clout now, people are going to be keeping an eye on what you produce for a while, so let's hope that this newfound fame keeps working out well for you.
Stop winning, I'm out of congratulations already ;) ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D
Congrats, Ivy! I actually read about it in a Danish newspaper before you posted here (the article is here (http://blog.politiken.dk/klik/2009/03/30/spillet-om-m%C3%83%C2%B8dommen-umuligt/) if you want to try to spot your name amidst a bunch of Scandinavian gibberish). You're an international celebrity!
Yeah, congratulations! I read about it on the AV Club, and was surprised that it wasn't picked up on the AGS blog/forums earlier.
It'd be a shame to waste good hype, so use these ideas and take Puzzlebots in a different direction, why don't you?

You mean something like "The 32-bit Virgin"?
Thanks everyone. :)
My parents found out about this via google...but luckily they're still proud of me. They even sent me a framed copy of the Forbes article. How is that for awkward? ::)
I'm not sure how much "clout" this will give me, but at the very least it means I'm going to GDC next year too, and I get another chance at the competition. Also, Puzzle Bots will very likely be out by then, and maybe I can do a bit of shameless promotion.
And Andail, touche! :P ;)

Do your parents sit on google googling your name?
Congrats Ivy, that's awesome! ;D
Yay for Ivy! Although not was you may have expected for GDC exposure*, that is awesome to win for such short prep time.
*pun not intended.
Garage, that Danish article is the first one I've seen with a picture from the comp. Must say that I love the mouse cursor.

One day my parents will find out about Kinky Island. I wish they'd be proud, too :P
How dare you relegate my idol Steve Meretzky to second place? >:(
Congrats!
Many more thank you's, AGSers. This was the first online forum I really got involved in, and now it's been almost four years. Thanks for supporting all my creative nonsense. :)

Well, I told them I won something, but then didn't elaborate. I avoided the subject for a day, and by the time I called home they'd already googled it. Let me tell you, this is the wrong century to be hiding things from your parents. :P
@Trent, that's actually one of the more normal cursors we had in our game concept. My favourite one was a background image of an incredibly nervous-looking dude and a cursor that was a pair of lips. The task was, "Make the first move!"
@Steve, I made sure to tell Mr. Meretzky that I downloaded "Leather Goddesses of Phobos" (and Frotz) while I was in high school. Then he thanked me for making him feel ancient, because the machines the game was designed to run on "had long since turned into silicon dust."

It's not so weird. My parents google Erin twice-daily at least.
...I just wish they would pay attention to me... :'(

If only you would be as cute and beautiful as Erin as, maybe they would... But think of it this way: YOU and only YOU inherited the ingenious name of "12". Isn't that something on its own? ;D
Congrats Erin! A much deserved success. I only wish I was there, but maybe next year I'll make it (to be honest I'm just waiting until you become huge and then approach you :P)
Again congrats! :D

Haha, so will we see a demo of an AGS adaption anytime soon?
Erin's First Time? :=

I can't believe how jealous I am of you...
You've had SEX?!
At least according to CNN.
A late but heartfelt congratulations, lady! Well deserved too, I think it really took your talent to make a worthy game with such... touchy guidelines.
When I told my mum that I won an AGS award she... sort of... didn't know what I was talking about. Two days later she bought me a blue cup.
I can't believe how jealous I am of you...
You're mother has bought you a blue cup?!
I mean sure, my mother googles Erin too, and occasionally she's googled me, but she never got me a blue cup! :(
I mean really... who HASN'T Googled Erin.........................................
also HOORAY!
Every time you google me, a lolcat dies.

Please don't hit me :-[
Wow, what a great story! Congrats, Erin!
Yopu beat Steve Meretzky? Woman, you're my idol...(not in a sexual way)
It's taken about 30 years, but finally someone realised that putting sex into computer games was the key to success... all along I thought it was pirates.
Congratulations!
/me adds pirate sex minigame to Resonance
*Dualnames turns HHGTG into Restaurant at the Kinky Island.
Hooray. Well done.
I read about this from somewhere a few days ago. You never fail at anything damn you!!! :P
Damn you Erin... Damn you.
Congratulations, Erin! Sounds like a fun event. You're right about country music too, anything else will do :)
I recently played Exit Fate (yes I completed it, so shoot me, I like Suikoden that much). And I can't figure out if this is coincidence or if he is an Ivy fan, because I did not recognize any other famous internet people in the other 74 recruitable characters.
I'm still not convinced you made the right choice in choosing GDC over Mittens.
Shame...

An Irish character with red hair (and a green mini-cape)? What are the odds?

You're just secretly in love with Erin, that's all. We all are! ;)
Haha, yeah. The first thing when I saw that character in the game that popped into my head was ivy, then even the name was "Erin". Really looks like ivy to me :) Or I want to see her everywhere subconsciously and it doesn't look like her at all :)
Thought I'd post it cause famous AGSers are even starring as game characters in non-ags games now (if it is indeed her :) )
PS. i do love Ivy :-[
Haha, oh my. Flattered but spoken for, I'm afraid!
Ben, that is one of the better cat photoshops I've seen in recent memory. :)
Ali and Vince, you should work together on that. Also, make an iPhone app, since that seems to be everyone's ticket to fortune these days.
Layabout, don't worry, I'm pretty sure this will come back to haunt me someday. Like if I ever try to run for public office.
fred, I figured I couldn't be the only one who thought so. :P
buloght, heh, I hope I look a bit less angry than that woman. Also, it can't be me, I've got like a million freckles.
Scummbuddy, you might have to have your own game concept competition at Mittens. Make sure you throw in the word "virginity" to attract media attention.
All the rest, thanks again! :)
Sorry for the bump, but there is now a video (http://events.digitallyspeaking.com/gdc2009/gdc-player.html?xmlURL=xml/8925_1238016351140HUJJ.xmloken=09d9ad80247eba4eb4f2) online.
You know, if you're into that sort of thing.
That GDC host was VERY annoying! They should have found someone else that could talk and knew a little about presentation. When speaking to a crowd in a conference, "UM" is not an acceptable word. (It's fine for you contestants because you're not the "professional" speaker. It was painful to listen to.)
It was an interesting viewing but I didn't care too much about the subject matter. I felt that the monthly game challenges here are more well devised.
Congrats on your win anyway... it's nice to see someone here who is rewared for their creativity.
LOLed @ Humiliation Meter ;D
I must have missed this thread earlier :) Congrats on your win Erin, and nice job keeping the flag up :D
That was so funny! Will this game ever be made for real? I would like to play it :D
Thanks all!
And fortunately, this was never meant to be a real game.
Does that mean the designs will be Public Domain (or at least, public for the AGS community) so that someone can start working on it? :P
Thoroughly enjoyed the vid, so thanks for posting it. I think the other two contestants over-complicated their games and tried too hard on the presentation. But I bet that's a big thing you have to deal with when pitching to execs and investors, so I think the lack of time and indie background really helped you out!
~Trent
Hehehe, saw this a few days ago. Nice concept. It would probably work pretty well on a DS or iPhone or an android thingmabob.
You're a pretty good public speaker as well, Erin. They loved you. :)
@Trent: Heather and I figured that the other two guys probably had enough time to shy away from the full autobiography aspect of it. However, we barely had time to come up with an idea, so we went with point-blank obviousness. Also, we have no shame.
@Layabout: Heh, if you say so...
@Stupot: Aww, seriously, your comment made my day. That's way too nice. :)
I think if we had been called in for any other design topic, I would have been stumbling a lot more. Luckily, with such a giggle-worthy subject, it wasn't too hard to get the audience laughing with/at/near us.
