Title: 21 CENTURY ESCHER
Post by: taryuu on Thu 29/01/2004 19:42:15
I thought this was pretty cool.  it takes a while to download, but it's worth it.

Sadly taryuu, I'd love to see it but it was taking ages on this poopy PC! This does however remind me of a sprite jam I was going to do once, but then realised I'd never win one to do it. So this is my un-official entry to a sprite jam that never existed :p

It's also my take on Escher in the 21st century...

If Escher made...

m0ds - funny sprite jam entry!

Taryuu - that was pretty sweet.  The snakes were very realistic looking.

I watched it finally, and tho I thought the movement of the snakes were cool and that the whole thing would have made a good opening credit sequence for a film, like SNAKEMAN!!!!1 it didn't remind me of escher in anyway. In fact, I don't even understand how it's Escher related? No stairs go up yet down. No waterfalls fall yet are at the same level, etc. I don't get it. Is 21st Century Escher just computer animation minus Escher?

Uh... did you notice the subtitle "based on a woodcut by M. C. Escher"?

That kinda ties it in.

That's great. There's a bit at about 1:00 where the rings very visibly pass through each other that I didn't like, but otherwise it's brilliant.

I have the exact same recording of that Satie piece (which I think was a very good choice for the music) on a CD here, interestingly.

Hmm, maybe it is kinda trippy.
