Title: 21, FINALLY!
Post by: Nine Toes on Fri 10/10/2003 17:18:17
Ladies and gentlemen... Sully is finally legal.   I can buy my own beer!  YES!

Funny thing is... I've been to numerous bars, and bought my own beer a few times, but I've never been carded once yet...

If I had known it was going to be that easy, I wouldn't have waited until I was 21 to be an alcoholic.  ;)  Do you know how L-L-L-O-O-O-N-N-N-G-G-G these last few months have been?

I wish I lived in Canada... 19 is the legal limit there.  Naw, screw canada... I wish I lived in Germany... what's the legal limit there?  5?

It kinda sucks though... Wisconsin just lowered the BAC limit to 0.08 from 0.1.  So according to the law, if I have one beer... I'm too drunk to drive.

Congratulations, what a great age to be. From there its all downhill. j/k

I remember turning 21 many years ago, and was so relieved to actually go into a store and buy my own alcohol.  I never drank any alcohol before i turned 21, and then all of a sudden, BOOM, i find myselfing enjoying a few cold ones every now and then. Hey, at least now you don't have to worry about getting busted at bars.

AFAIK: 16 for beer and other relatively weak beverages, 18 for harder ones. Don't take my word for it, I don't drink so I don't care much about these things.

Congratulations, but it's all a downhill slide to death from here.   ;D

I'm 26 and I don't recall anticipating a birthday after my 21st..  time's flown about 10x as quickly since that horrible birthday.

NORWAY:

legal drinking and smoking (and that shit you put under your lip called "snus") age: 18
spirit: 20 (21?)
speedlimit on highways: 90 - 100 km/h. it depends on the road.
handgun: 21
sexual intercourse: 16 to do it with anyone older than 16, 14 to do it with people between 14 - 19. that one is a littlebit frustrating.

but no one cares about agelimits...

Italy - no limit

A 21 year drinking age would be irritating, by the time you're that age, you won't be stupid enought to do all the stupid things you want to do when you get drunk.

New York State:

Legal Drinking Age: 21
Legal Cigarette Purchase: 18
Narcotics: Illegal
Prostitution: Illegal
Speed Limit on Highways: NYS Thruway Max Speed is 65

I'm pretty sure that all Narcotics are Illegal in the US, but some prostitution is Legal in Nevada.

I was stupid enough.
In fact, at 25 I think I can say that while the stupid things may have changed slightly in their nature, they are most certainly still there.
Although the definition of 'stupid' may vary...

Anyways, I have to say one of the most annoying things ever was going down to Florida with my girlfriend when we were 20 and being denied entry into every damn bar and club around. I was practically a veteran drinker at that point for farts sake.

So what do teenagers do for fun in less alcoholic parts of the world?

Not that I condone underage drinking of course...

hang out, joke around, remember what they did on the weekend, not kill people in car crashes, not vomit every other day, not complain about self induced headaches, save money, not worry their parents, heroin

Oh.

Actually, it's a skill that we develop early to know how much to drink before you make yourself sick/forget things/kill people.

Unfortunately, most people are not good at this skill.

Would you believe that I've never been sick from drinking? Throwing up is my absolute most hated thing of all time, so I make it a point to know when I'm going to hit that barrier.

Bah, I think this thread is heading into make-shawn-look-bad territory.

Yeah, I drink, yeah, there are better things to do. I have no excuses. I need a hug.

I never drink until I throw up nowadays, though back in the teens that happened quite a few times.
I seldom feel sick because I can mix almost anything, and will become pretty darn drunk before actually being sick.

I know I drink pretty much now, but there are two things to keep in mind:
1. I only get funny and happy when I drink, and my social skills improve dramatically. With a proper amount of alcohole, I can entertain entire tables at finer dinners
2. I will only live this kind of life for like four more years or so, then get a family, a decent job and live an orderly life

The legal alcohol limit to drive in Aus is 0.05 if you've been driving for a certain amount of years, and 0.02 for less experienced, but I know there was talk about having 0.00 for the first few years of your license, which I think is a great idea.

They are also doing tests for other drugs, on trial I think atm for truck drivers, testing for things like speed, extacy, marijuana, coke etc. I think you chew on something for a while then they take the sample and run it through a machine and it gives a pos, neg sample.

I think this will effect a lot of people if it becomes a regular police test, and especially for truckies.

Happy birthday Bodyart

Surely though in USA, people drink underage at 18, 19, 20 at home with their parents, well I'm sure atleast some do.

I'm pretty sure Las Naranjas' Parents let him drink at home for a few years before 18 seeing as I think he's still 17?

What happens at college's in America, there's always those frat parties in movies, and most of the students are probably under 21. so I guess they do just drink like everyone else, just not legally.

When I turned 18, I stopped drinking, and then started again when I was about 22, I did drink alcohol in that time but never really cared about it too much. I'd find it hard to become an alcoholic, but I can drink pretty hard when needed.

MMMmmmmm, I'm going to open another beer.

in Queensland, the limit is 0.00% for a Provisional license holder, but we dont have to wear p-plates and we dont have the silly 90kph rule for teh 1st year of teh p license as tehy do in nsw.

Congrats BodyArt. being 21 is cool cause you are supposed to be adult or something

I've been 18 for about 6 weeks, but I always had access to the homebrew (which I was always responsible for making in the first place).

I got blind drunk twice when I was 16 and spewed my guts out and ever since have learnt my lesson, and I've never binge drank since then.
Since I could drink though it dispelled this whole myth and fantasy about alcohol. So many other people who had to drink covertly had to down quick shots of some bloody liquor or another (I hate liquor) just so they could show people they were drunk. They were always the ones that got utterly paro and ended up not remembering anything the next day.

By and large, those who could drink at home stayed in moderation.
