Title: 3D Violence Engine
Post by: simulacra on Tue 26/10/2004 14:39:48
Hi.

I am considering to make a very radical first-person shooter, and wonder which system I should use. It's an contemporary office setting, mostly involving office workers, security, police and military. I'd like an engine with not too much scripting and which I can distribute indepentdently. (A MOD for a commercial product still requires you to buy the product, right?)

Any suggestions?

GameBlender Forum (http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6)

Hellstation (http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9061) (FPS made completely in Blender)

Find out how to use Blender with the downloadable documentation at blender.org

There are awesomer, better engines, but not for lack of scripting and with an integrated modeler. There is an EXE export, and recently the engine was sped up with Frustrum culling (won't load anything outside of camera view).

If you don't like the modeller most 3d files can be imported from other programs with no need for plugins.

I'm using for 3d games DarkBasic Professional. It's based on BASIC language. But blender is ofcourse free, wich would be a good choice also! For free 3d modelling I suggest Wings3D, bytheway  ;) http://www.wings3d.com

wish you all the best with your game!

You're not missing much, it's just a simple FPS demo with a plot kind of like Resident Evil. The link is dead, I PM'd the creator to see what's up.

I should also mention that there's no way to just understand the game engine without reading about it, most of the info can be found through the links in the gameBlender forum. Some people have Blender for years and never know about the game engine being there.

There is a big list of Blender games here (http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php1857) but I didn't want to mention it because they aren't all compiled (read: you must run them through Blender). There is an abandoned MI game in there that's pretty cool (you can play through a room).
