Title: A discussion about Caravans
Post by: Obi on Thu 26/10/2006 11:35:35
I recently purchased a caravan (http://www.isleofwightpictures.co.uk/gypsy-caravan.600.jpg)
Have you any Caravan related stories? I onced lived in a Caravan for several days in which people call a holiday. It was really cold and I didn't like it, all in all caravans are abit shit. Do you think Caravans are shit? I do.

My cousin is hippy and he lives in a caravan, not bigger that this one (With the engine "incorporated", I don' t know if it' s a caravan really, or a van with a bed), with a cat and his girlfriend... I doubt I would be able to live like that for more than... a month? But apparently he is managing well. I will post more of his adventures here.

We've got a caravan, though it's not as funky looking as yours,  it's 16 years old but has hot and cold water, shower, gas cooker, toilet and 2 living areas. I certainly don't think it's a bit shit. In the past year we've had 3 weeks on holiday, weeks holiday's in lake district, wales, and dorset, plus at least 5 weekends away. The cost of all this was under £600, a bargain. You also get to hold traffic up on single lane roads and overtake other caravans very slowly on dual carriageways, annoying other drivers. Excellent fun  ;)

Apart from Mittens, my experience of campsites are purely negative. But parking a caravan in the middle of nowhere might prove to be great fun. I have mixed feelings about those narrow coffins.

I have slept in a cold, yet sweaty caravan. I don't like Caravans. However, if I could install Wifi...

That's not a caravan, it's an egg with wheels!

Caravans are a great way to get somewhere without it costing too much in hotels/cabins/whatever. Cramped as some may be, i guess the intimate feeling i get (social intimacy i mean) outweighs a lot of the cons for me. There's only a couple of types of holidays that i would have a problem with, and a holiday in a camper isn't one of them if(holiday.days < 25)

But why did you buy it then? Peer pressure? The neighbours have got one too? :P

You should see how many of your friends you can cram in there, and then hook it up to a pick up truck and go baja-ing through a cornfield.

That thing is ugly. :) I couldn't figure out what it was until I read the post. We call them trailers.

You have to kill a gypsy to get one like that. That'd be so cool. I love old school caravans.

EDIT: Cool being the fact that you had one, not the killing part... :P

That seems to be a motor home, or 'camper'. It's like a big van with a bed and kitchen and whatnot.

That is an old school gyppo caravan. You need a horse and wear funny clothes and smell funny and grow a beard to look the part with that caravan. Is there something you are not telling us OBI? You aren't a gyppo are you? I hope not.

Yeah, first thing I thought of when I saw that thing was Obi being hunted by Borat.

Without looking at the picture, it almost sounds like you're talking about the Amish.

But I use the word Gyppo, which is a kind of derogatory slang for gypsie.
