Kinoko

I just thought I'd share this because it makes me feel gooey inside (and by that I don't mean the way acid makes you feel after you drink it).

I was recently emailed by a lovely man in the US who told me he'd played Cirque with his two daughters and they all thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, that he's buying a copy of my comic and giving me a considerable amount extra as thanks for the game. He was so utterly lovely about it, I regained a lot of my lost faith in humanity.

AWWWWW!

I was rather surprised he didn't find it offensive...

Mr Jake

oh! HO! so someone throws money your way so humanity is fine again PFFFF

Kinoko

Yep, that's the way it is.

Seriously, this guy could've played the game and left it at that. Next step up, he could've sent me an email saying he enjoyed it. He's gone -way- above that and I was extremely flattered ^_^

Andail

Congratulations!
Positive feedback from strangers is marvellous, especially in the beginning. Even a crap game like Tulle's World still renders me happy email from people saying nice things.
In the end, it will be the motivation that keeps you creating things.

PaulSC

That was a pretty nice thing to do. I hope people will be throwing money at me if/when I get my game finished...

Though given that my game is about a leper community, that's probably fairly unlikely.

Way to go Kinoko.. my respects to you.
Something like that would be a big vote of confidence and a boost of motivation to work on more projects.Ã,  And who knows what oppertunities may present itself if the right person(s) sees your work. *Salutes*

*Edit: Hey Kinoko, I just found your "Katt's Lair" website, www.anime.com.au/Katt/ , wow.. great job. You've got some real artistic talent, professional looking stuff.  I put up a link to your site on the links page on my site for you as well.
Best wishes!
Conan: "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"
Mongol General: "That is good."

I think that's great!!

It's definately nice when your work gets some props!!

My game (A Friend Indeed) was gonna be in an Italian magazine ... but I haven't heard back from them in about a month :(Ã,  So not sure what happened there.

But this isn't about me ... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

That's going above and beyond (that he sent you money).

You should bask in the glow of 'warm fuzziness' for as long as it lasts :)

Cheers

Squinky

Cool, I need to play that game of yours someday....It always is cool when you find out people really like your stuff....

Kinoko

Barbarian: Groovy, thanks for that ^_^ (though I don't think I've updated that webpage in centuries... it's probably no longer visable through the dust).

AGA: Aww, thanks for that! It still makes me feel all cool to see reviews (good or bad) of Cirque...

It's actually quite old now @_@ I did it at the start of last year. People keep asking when the next installemnt will be out and I think I told them I'd have about 5 issues by the time this next comic convention (on in 2 weeks) rolled around. Hmm! I do most definitely plan on doing a whole bunch more but I'm just more interested in gaming right now. It's actually rather crap so don't expect too much. It's more like an issue 0 than an issue 1 and the real story gets going after this...

Just thought that I might add that I read your comics and enjoyed them muchly. Spent last night looking for other Manga cartoons. Some nice stuff there.

Esseb

Just thought I should point out that the last comic on your website, Sugar & Spice, links to the UFO Catchers comic when you reach page 2.

I also enjoyed what little there was of the Mahiru no Tsuki comic (Midday of the Month? My amazing skills at Japanese was only able to recognice the two last words, Jim Breen's JDIC helped with the first.) Let us know when the next installment is released, I rather like the concept of fan-made manga comics, much like fan-made/homebrew/amateur/whatever adventure games. Is there some place which list where to find them online or do most of them just get sold at conventions?

Yeah I noticed that too. If you click on the lin k underneath, it gets you to the right page however.

Kinoko

Ah, whoops, thanks for pointing that out.

Though I plan on taking those awful comics down at some point anyway @_@ They're so embarrasing...

Hmmm, I'm not too sure on webpages that list webcomics, but I'm sure they must be there. I -do- know my friend's blog has a whole big section on some good ones so I'll give you that url. http://soliloquoy.siliconlegacy.com/

One of the most famous webcomics which has a rather substantial cult following is Megatokyo - which I despise :P But you know, you might like it...

Of course, there'd be hundreds of comics that aren't available on the web which as you pointed out, would probably be mostly available at conventions. Some people, particularly these days, have little manga "anthologies" and magazines out but again, I only see them at conventions so you'd really have to do some googling yourself to find any. My friend runs one caled 'Moshi Moshi' which is pretty cool for an indy magazine.

Esseb

I do indeed despise it. Thanks for the link, I'll try googling for some others but I'm afraid of the Furry Law of Google; Whatever you search for you will find furry porn.

Yeah, it's those little things that make it all worth it. And not just in game-making. While it's great for me to see thay, say, the LSL2 Point and Click still gets people saying they love it (and it's not even an original of mine), other things have been great, too. For instace, last year I played Hamlet on a comic-relief version of Hamlet. Now, I wasn't the only Hamlet in the play, but I happened to be the one that appeared the most - coincidence. And after the show I got some people saying they were really moved by the Alas! Poor Yorick speech (for which I'd gotten a real skull!).

Also, much earlier this year, I played the Choir and the Corifeus in Sartre's version of Eurípedes "As Troianas" ("the Trojans", the female trojans - no gender in English language, what a shame! ;) ). After the performance, it was heart-warming to see how people had been touched by my character, which wasn't really the main character - but it seemed that I had kinda "made" it a main character. I mean, people would approach me and say I had created a character like, "the old Jewish man who's seen his share of death in the war and taken his share of beatings, and is wizened and aged by all those experiences". I mean, I'm just 18! That sort of thing really keeps you going.

Really, in whatever we do, knowing that we touched someone along the way is always enough reward.

Awww, I'm getting sentimental...

Anyway, congrats, Kinoko! Hope your next game gets the same honour.
