I'll spend the next three weeks in Finland (near Rovaniemi) and currently I'm quite addicted to the womens soccer world cup.
Are those games being broadcasted on national TV?
Unfortunately I won't have a Sat-Receiver, just a "Digi Box" (whatever that is ;) )
Depends on whether your fabled Digi-box is connected via cable or antenna.
If you have cable connected one, you might get the eurosport channels, which are apparently airing "under 17 year old's women's soccer championship". If this is what you are talking about.
If not, you'll probably be stuck with the national TV, and according to a forum post I found they are only "showing a total of 5 matches, and two have already gone". Apparently the remaining ones are the semi-finals (13.07), the bronze match (16.07) and the finals (17.07).
Being near Rovaniemi, it is more likely you'll be stuck with a lousy antenna box, so I fear you might be out of luck there... :(
"Welcome to Finland, we don't watch no darn soccer! WE WON THE GODDAMN HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS! *fist pump* :D"
Haha.. you've won the what?! Okay, I heard that on the radio, but yeah - I never watched a single game. Congrats anyway ;D
And you're right, it's just a stupid antenna, kept in direction with lots of wires and nails.
But if they at least send the finals I'll be safe. Thanks a lot for the dates!
Finland? Women? Soccer? TV?!?
Speak English sir! 8)
A slow day at work, so I had good time to waste looking up the dates and stuff. ;)
Hooray for Rovaniemi and for womens soccer world cup. I was watching the second half of the Germany-Nigeria game yesterday and I have to admit that it was a well deserved win.

seconded. I'd understand sauna suffering or vodka drinking world championship
or hockey
I humbly suggest we hijack this thread and turn it into a general "Finland = Winland" thread. Feel free to troll and disagree, if you dare! Dare you, dare you, double dare you!
I'm off to sauna right about NOW!
The only reason I would ever care about Finland is coz that's where the real Santa Claus lives. :D
Sorry Monkey, Santa Park in Rovaniemi is actually mostly an underground military bunker, and not the underground amusement part the ads say. =(
That's not true! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!! :-\ :'( :'( :'(
Besides, I saw the video footage on Bam Margera's Where the #$&% is Santa?, so I know the truth. I KNOW THE TRUTH!! :=

I beg to differ:

Actually I've never been to the underground Santa Park yet, but the Santa Claus Village at the Arctic Circle is actually quite nice (and crowded). And since they have a convincing Santa above the ground, I'm very sure that the park is only a prison for criminal elves :D
The Santapark thing is a Finnish in-joke. They dug a huge cavern in the bedrock in there, and built a part of the part within. However, people who worked the site say that they actually dug over three times the amount of rock needed to build the park that is open to visitors. So what is the other two thirds of the cavern used for? Hmmmm...
Some day I should stop hiding in the woods and actually get to know people & country :-\
My knowledge is pretty much limited to what I get to know from my mother-in-law - so everything beyond 1970 is out of my reach ;)
Hahaha! Sounds familiar. I'm just planning my first attempt at leaving Finland and visiting some other countries. I also recommend you visit some other areas than Rovaniemi area. The whole town of Rovaniemi, and the surrounding region, are huge on tourists and thus are extremely expensive on EVERYTHING.
