When I was a kid, my favourite story was on this audio tape... I can't remember what it was called, who it was by.. but maybe you guys can help me identify it.

The story is basically that some kid goes home from school early because he has a secret to tell his mother. On the way he takes a shortcut through some woods he knows. But three terrible giants catch him and they're probably going to eat them, but he yells that he has the chicken pox so they drop him and he runs all the way home...

If I remember correctly, whoever was reading the book ended it with something like, "Snick Snack Snover, that story's over!"

Any ideas what it could have been?

Ooooh. Well googling what you said, I think you mean "snip, snip, snover..."

Possible sites could be:

(The giant with no heart)
or
http://www.maerchenlexikon.de/etexte/510A/te510A-001.htm
or (and this one seems to have loads of the stories...)

The only audio tapes I remember, besides Thomas the Tank Engine, was one about these kids that stowed away in a plane, landed in some big valley and were being hunted by "Manuel" or someone, and there was a talking parrot. I really should know the name of the story cos it's a pretty famous one, but I can't for the life of me right now.

the only book i really remember from my childhood is The Opposite Tree, i can only recollect ever actually owning one audio book type thing as a kid... it was a She-Ra tape.

It sounds like a typical norse ending to a fairytale. Problem is they all have children, forests and trolls in them. I have read quite a lot of them in my time, but I can't really recall any containing either school or mention of chicken pox. Could it be that you are thinking of something written by Roald Dahl perhaps? Like Revolting Rhymes?
Is there anything else you can remember about the story?
