Hey!

Once more I need your precious help!

My site is ready (well almost... I'm still filling it up with stuff, mp3s, scores, images, news...)

The thing is that I have two different options for all audio. Streaming and download. The download are high quality mp3s, while the streaming are flv files. And I can't make flv files. So in order not to bug every now and then the guy who made the site, it would be usefull to have a program that makes flv files from audio. I did extensive search in google yesterday but all I could find was video converters, which is no good. Unless there is some process to make the wav file into a movie and then... Dunno

So any ideas?

btw, for those of you who want to check an almost ready site, go to:

I'm not familiar with these formats, is that FLV the same thing as Flash Videos (but can be just used for streaming audio ?2? ) ?

Anyway, this is the third link when typing "flv" into google.

Nikolas

It most probably is.

But Riva, does not accept importing mp3, or wav, or aif, or any audio format. Only video files (mpg, avi and the rest)... That's my problem... I've installed at least 4 different programs only to find out that they don't import audio files...Ã,  :(

Thanks though for the quick answer.

Bit odd they should be flv, considering you can stream mp3s in flash but never mind, the simplest way to convert your mp3s to flv would be to use FFMPEG.Ã,  Get it from http://www.videohelp.com/download/ffmpeggui03c.zip and extract somewhere easy to type.Ã,  To convert an mp3 to an flv with no video track use this command:

c:\extractdir\ffmpeg.exe -ab 96 -i input.mp3 output.flv

replace the 96 with whatever bitrate you want the mp3 to be transcoded to.

Nikolas

Thanks scotch. It works like a charm...

I dunno why flv, but that's the way the web designer made it. His excuse was that if it was mp3, it wouldn't play automatically while downloading... Dunno really, but since it works it's fine. I'm happy :D

Thanks again!

Ad Nauseum? For a second I thought it was Madnomad's song of the same name:

"I don't like assholes. Don't like talking to them; don't like talking about them"

(So why is he talking about them?)

I like the look of the site, but two things bother me if you want feedback:

1) Silence. I reckon you should have one of your compositions play straight away.

2) Everything seems to animate and move just a tad slower than it should, in my opinion. What do the others think?

Nikolas

About the silence... I am a little aware of that. It's just that I wanted to write a new background track for the website, and I ran out of ideas until now (or until the future, dunno). There will be music in the future...

As for the speed, I don't know... It could be a little slow but on the other hand, there's not much you can go through really. So hopefully one won't be too much annoyed... :)

Thanks Matt!

Looking good! I can't wait to hear all the samples you plan on uploading to your site. The webmaster did a great job putting your site together... I think Hollywood needs to get in touch with you, regarding your talent. Would love to hear your scores on the "Big Screen"!

Rharpe, thanks mate...

Everybody else:

I still have something of a trouble with the flv.

Scotch program worked like a charm, except a small issue. Now the flv files, I made with the particular program, don't work very well with the bar in the site. I mean check the first file (adnausemam). the cursor on the bar does not move as it should on the bar, to follow the timing of the track. Moreover if I play something else and then play the flvs, I've made, the bar has the timing of the current track, but the cursor follows the timing of the previous track, thus it goes further from the bar (if the previous track was smaller than the current one), or does nto complete the bar.

Anyway I asked from the webdeisgner and I found the program that he used, but heck! I can't install it! It asks me for Quicktime 6.5 or later! And I have Quicktime 7 Pro in my computer, but it fails to 'see' it!

I don't know w3hat's wrong, and it's not really an important issue (but I like to have everything tidy and all)...

Help... A little more help...

btw, anything about the site, here is the thread to say it!
Now that I thikn of it this thread should go to the critics lounge? Nay... it's fine where it is, I think...

Totally disagree here.  Having the main page of a website start up with sound of any sort without the user requesting it is considered very bad form, and with good reason; not everyone wants to be unexpectedly assailed with music or any other sound while browsing the web.  It's much better to have the main page load in silence and have the user click on Samples if he wants to hear a sample of the music.

With most websites I'd agree with you, however his website is all about his music, so why else would you surf it? If I was asked to go on a musician's website I'd expect music to be played!

Mr Jake

If music is played, it should be stoppable. Allowing the user to play music is much better.

Also, you may want to get your designer to look at the contrast on the list of samples, some of them are a tad hard to read and I have reasonably good eyesight. Someone with lesser could have problems.
