Roger Federer - a good reason for cloning

Why can't we like sports people/teams for who they are? Not the fact that they come from our country.

I'm not usually the kind of person that gives a toss about stars/sports players or anyone in the public eye apart from people who I have a real artistic respect for, or the players I really love in my rugby team, but my god... I love Roger Federer.

He's incredibly skilled, he's nice, he's not a dickhead, he doesn't loose his cool on the tennis court, he doesn't seem fake at all, he doesn't get engaged to a minor celebrity the day after losing a major tennis match to keep people talking about him and forget about what a loser he is (BAM, Lleyton!), and he's just freaking gorgeous.

I always think when most people talk about how "cute" stars or sportspeople are that they must have lowered their standards to some hideous level, because they all look ugly or just very average to me. I can never see what people are talking about. It's like, if I saw that person on the street, I wouldn't give them a second look but everyone drools over them when they're famous and suddenly, it's "Everyone Gets To Be a Sex Symbol" day (there are some exceptions like David Duchovny - I'm not mad about him but he's one of those few you can honestly say is better looking than the average person).

Federer though... he's got a goofy smile but he's the first -genuinely- good looking sportsperson I've seen in a long time. It makes me happy that there's at least one person out there in the tennis world like him. We need more Federers and fewer (read: "no") Lleyton Hewitts.

God, I hate that f*cker. Australians go nuts over him just because he's Australian. "That's not cockiness and a childish anger problem, that's AUSSIE SPIRIT!".

Hear hear.
Glad to see not all australians are totally berko.

Federer really seems like a nice guy. Although is it possible these days for a tennis player to go a match without punching the air? That would be good.

Funny thing is, I have never ever found someone who does like Hewitt.

Likewise with Shane Warne, or even Russel Crowe. Maybe the media services are just nuts about who  they'll assume rate well and are maybe out of touch.

Anyway, I dislike individual sportsmen on the whole generally. I find it a bit hard to support someone who is the sole beneficiary of their effort as it were.

Hey! I've been allways fighting against people who likes one sport because the nowadays hero is from its country. That's what it's happening now here. Now it seems that everybody loves F-1 since the times of Fangio  :P. You know what people? I love F-1 since the Prost-Senna years and I hate Alonso. Induráin was quite boring for me, but I love Lance. I hate Rossi (Motorbikes), but I like Sete. I don't see a pattern... I like winners, losers, people from my country and people who is not.

And Federer seems to be quite cool.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I just like whoever seems, for whatever reason, the best to me. I don't go for teams/people who are cocky/assholes/yobbos... even when I'm watching a sport I've never seen before, I'll look at all the candidates and go for whichever one appeals to me, not the Australian necessarilly. Of course I can understand in cirtain circumstances going for your local team. In my case, both my local footy teams just happen to be the best (Broncos are on top of the ladder and the Lions, well, 4 premiership attendances in a row and it's looking likely for a fifth) but of course, there's a real lot of fun in being apart of the town's team. If I walk around wearing my Broncos gear, suddenly everyone's my friend.

In things like tennis or when your local team is clearly a bunch of dickheads, I really think you have to step back and think about who you're going for and why. Hewitt is my most hated sportperson right now. Not only is he a loser with an anger problem, but he's a little worm. He'ss not even a big, evil bad guy like some other people. He's like a little yappy dog that keeps biting people's ankles.

wow, i was just thinking this. you'll watch a 3million dollar match of footy where they catch the ball about 2/10 times, and then you'll go outside and play with your friends who seem better than the pros! And don't get me started on Sonny Bill WIlliams.
He is absolute eyecandy for girls (apologies to all unstuck up, undramaqueenish girls on these forums). Almost all of my friends MSN Nicks have the words 'Sonny Bill Williams is gorgeous'. THey are forgetting the fact that he is a decent footy player. --Shudder--

Woooo! Somebody's jealous of Sonny Bill!

But it's also bad when people attack people who don't deserve it when they're built up by the media. Players like Sonny Bill [or Johns and Lockyer for that matter] are hyped by supporters and media, not themselves. They're not angry little pretentious weasels like Hewitt and probably don't deserve the crap.

Well, Hewitt's a completely different story.
EVERYBODY hates Hewitt.

Honestly I can't see what's wrong with Leyton Hewitt. Every interview I saw with him at Wimbledon he's seemed like a perfectly nice guy.

It's exactly the same with Russell Crowe - every interview I've seen with him he seems like a normal, nice guy. Check out an interview with him here: http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/videos/most_recent/index.jhtml?start=33

You hear/read about them in newspapers or on the internet, or judge them by who they're going out with. It's just stupid. You hear about Russell Crowe punching reporters and throwing stuff at them, then you read an article about how Russell Crowe's an asshole and it's written by the exact same people he's been throwing stuff at. Obviously it's going to be slightly biased.

I'm quite a fan of Tennis and watch all the Grand Slams and have since I was a kid.

Federer has it all in all aspects at such a young age, I think he's only 23.

I don't like Hewitt as a person but he's the 2nd best Tennis player in the world, and I enjoy watching him play. It's sick that his 'C'mon' antics are catching on, I even saw Sharapova doing it.

It's unbelievable the shots Federer pulls off, He's a class above the next group of players down that are all pretty even. He beat Hewitt & Roddick in consecutive matches (SF & Final) in straight sets, and both those players were playing at the top of their games, and are the next 2 best players in the world.

As far as looks go with an attitude to match, I hope Sharapova doesn't go down the same path as that other Russian chick.

Attitude isn't everything though, cause I think McEnroe was a great player and his antics are part of classic History now, He's actually quite a funny guy.
