Fret not, in just five years we will have...
DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nm_jJBkHtU)
Possibly one of the most bombastic super-hero cartoons of the 80's, and that says a lot. I saw a couple of episodes as a kid and enjoyed it highly.
Apparently, it takes place in 2015 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenders_of_the_earth), so keep a lookout!
Lol
Hey, the cartoons of 80s and 90s might not be very good, but rather that than goddamn million episodes of Pokemon. ::) ;D (actually Bruce Timm and the gang really rampped it up in quality in the 90s)
GO DOE!
Finally, something in the future worth looking forward to :=
I don't know... I was pretty let down when buck rogers didn't appear at the millenium :(
Never saw the cartoon, but loved both the Phantom and Mandrake comics when I was younger. Especially Mandrake is an extremely underrated superhero, methinks. And quite possibly one of the most stylish. Cape, hat, costume and pencil-thin moustache, now that's how you fight evil with class.

Mandrake was the reason to buy The Phantom :D

If you're from Sweden :P
I don't think that comic was as popular in other countries , seeing that it was based in Sweden for quite some time. But I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
EDIT after watching the video: I didn't know he was one of the defenders ;D, but I still doubt mandrake was a part of the "the phantom"-comic in other countries. but once again I don't know.
By the way, have you guys seen Linkara's videos? He's got this awesome series where he tears down bad comics. It's really quite fun at times :D I higly recomend him:
Here's one of his videos (http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/linkara/at4w/3252-superman-at-earths-end)
Reminds me of Captain Planet and the planeteers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpXM9bj-WPU).
Being a Walker myself, I sorta have to read Phantom comics. :P
I remember Mandrake turning up in a few stories, but he didn't really play many important parts.
And Captain Planet was...Awesweird...!(?). :-\
Yay even more cool stuff to look forward that year :D First hoverboards and hovercars, then $20 Pepsis, and now Defenders of the freaking Earth ^_^
What an exciting time it is to be alive :D

Dude, I totally changed my Tigsource forums avatar to Captain Planet like three days ago :D
I've been trying to remember that show for a long time, i used to think it was the x-men when i was but a wee lad.
It's strange watching that intro, could be Heroes series 8 or something if it wasn't animated (especially the last 5 seconds).
Saber Rider For the Win...CAN;T TOUCH THIS!!
Seriously go check it out, it has one of the coolest themes EVER.
I can top that

some of those are very wierd.. dinosaucers?
Bah. I won't hold my breath. I've been looking forward to hover conversions and getting myself on a Mattel hover board, but that ain't looking too likely within the next five years either - which is a damn, damn shame.

I know how you feel, I've been drinking a glass a of radioactive waste before I go to sleep, for years now. But alas, no superpowers yet. I had my heart set on being a super villian...probably would change my minions from lizard-people and robots to something like hot evil chicks but those are just details that change when getting older. ;D
I never realized this as a kid... but were all the cartoons of the 80s made by the Japanese? The animation style is very anime-ish. :)

A great deal of cartoons I guess, just like all the Disney movies are made in Korea.

Dude, could this coincidence be any greater? No, seriously, that's funny. It's funny enough that I remember that stupid show - next to the Ninja Turtles and Ducktales the only cartoon I remember watching when I was a child.

I have no mics so I've yet to hear the mask tune (the rest top ten can't beat saber rider), but I do recall mask intro to have a really cool song. Speaking of..one of the best songs EVER..

Heh, it's now finally clear where my obsession with blue skin and green hair came from :o
They thought their cartoon propaganda would encourage me to be environmentally aware - bet they never thought it'd give me a fondness for crazily coloured people 8)
