Anybody knows when first version of AGS was created?
By the way, we - community - should celebrate the anniversary in some way.
Hope you like the idea.

why don't you read changes.txt in the docs folder?
(AC) VERSION 1.00, FEBRUARY 1997 (exact date unknown)
(AGS) VERSION 2.00, September 1999 (exact date not marked either...)
EDIT: Right-o, teh announcement of AC2 was on 18th September:

And the real birthday of AC dated back to... read for yourselves:

Thanks Scummbuddy, however I still think we should celebrate anniversarys some way.

Like...how? With balloons and confettii falling from the ceiling and a blareing of trumpets? And then two supermodels wearing swimsuits walk out carrying a big anniversary cake while clowns ride around on tiney bicycles and tossding our candy?

Can we make that clowns carrying the cake and super models tossing our candy ::)
We used to do anniversary banners.
Well, we did at least once anyways.
Has anyone out there done any kind of AGS history?
May be interesting. The newbies need to know about Little Willy and Andy.
isnt there the ags dictionary?
ANDY PENIS
Good contribution..
yes, there is the ags dictionary (look below).
Despite its ingenuity, it passes unseen most of the time.
Also, I think the anniversaries usually get some sort of celebration thread, with ASCII cakes and other nifty ceremonials.
Ah. I had forgotten about the dictionary.
I just read through the entire thing. Awsome.
I think it should be linked more prominently somewhere.
Also, you may consider links at the top of the page to the individual letters.
Just a clarification:
Poobungies is actually used specifically as a negative expletive or to describe something negative. Basically a replacement for "sh*t" and "sh*tty".
For example:
"Well, that rotten milk tasted absolutely poobungies."
or
"Poobungies! I just dropped my wallet into the endless abyss!"
;)

Happy, Close enough to your birthday, AGS!
I made an ASCII metal claw/cake, just for the almost occasion.

People ignore it only because it lacks Pesty. It's natural to not want to read something that doesn't have me in it. Sort of a subconcious thing.
Earlwood, I reckon you could stab through full plate with that 'cake' O_o

In Monkey Island, when I look in the stump, it asks me to insert a new disk, but my stolen copy from the intarweb doesn't have disks. Can someone please send me the files so I can hack them and play this great game?

PS: Challenge fulfilled.
I just noticed something wrong with the definition of Resolution.
Quote
RESOLUTION
AGS originally handled 420x200 respectively 640x400 pixels, and many a controversy was about which one to prefer. The newer versions of AGS handles much higher resolutions, although it requires much work and talent to actually make use of such high amount of pixels.
It should be 320x200.
Las Naranjas, the incredibly poor quality of your painting skills aside, that is a very disturbing drawing. :P May I ask, who are the two people in the picture?
You should not judge Las Naranjas' drawing abilities based on one picture.Ã, It is pretty crappy, though.
Edit: Based on the additional names on the picture, I would have to guess it was made by Las Naranjas and someone else.
Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I think its just meant to look bad
it was drawn on the AGSwhiteboard for my birthday, then grundislav joined and thought we were drawing a Happy Birthday AGS picture so he drew blue cups and Chris Jones...
So now I have to celebrate my birthday with AGS and all anyone gets me are bluecups...
There aren't many gifts that we can get a time-traveller that he can't get by himself, you know.
Updated the dictictionary.
I do believe it is mentioned in the registration procedure somewhere (at least if you fail the test, in which case it will be recommended as good reading), apart from that I guess my signature is the only place.
Hm, Pesty, release a game and I'll look into it :)
I'm surprised that SCUMM isnt mentioned in the dictionary. (not meÃ, ;D )
Andail:
Annie is no longer ever on #ags
Kandyman has returned
Unilin I have never seen on #ags
Vel's ezine shoudl probabbly be mentioned, as the only one still going...
You've never seen Unilin on #ags because you're a n00b.
Yeh Unilin is real cool..

Indeed, but even so, teh AGS Dictionary entry:
Quote
WIEDMAN, CHRISTOPHER
(Unilin) AGS-member, most known for his low activity on the boards, but constant presence at the IRC-channel.
is inaccurate, as he is not constantly present
Oh he's there, he just goes by another name these days...
I'm slightly surprised that I'm not in there.
And you are...?
Er, yes. You see, I WOULD read the AGS Dictionary, but er, I seem to have misplaced my reading glasses.... *strains to read the screen*
Maybe we should bring up the topic of making Bluecup Shirts again. I liked that idea.
The AGS Anniversary is held annually on the 18th September. We marked it in 2002 with a special website banner and a thread of some description.
Anyway, this year will be the 5th Anniversary, so get preparing those stripper-infested birthday cakes.

I have released a game! It is a game of monumentous proportions! I call it "Float Eye". It is brilliant. http://www.sylpher.com/froghaslipstick/games/floateye.zip
I am seriously offeneded that our favorite buddy RPGMaker2000, or whatever, didn't make it into the books as 'noob who promised everything' and "AGS to the Limits!1!'
And whatabout PhilRoberts?
...or whatever his name was...
CJ, there will only be male strippers this year. You see, we need to pay for the women, but the men will do it for free.
