I only play chess games of 5 minutes or less, preferrably blitz (2 minutes).  30 minutes is way too boring.

Games that short leave too much room for trickery (3 move kills, etc) and I don't really like them. I'd prefer at least 15 mins per person, but 30 minutes seems a bit much because then you'd need to be online for up to an hour.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

I agree fifteen minutes is adequate time per player, but even if it was a half an hour, and you were quick, it wouldn't take the full hour.

We'd also have to make some honor code, where while playing, we play with what we know. In otherwords not open a chess book/program. I mean it's fairly obvious rule that shouldn't really need to be stated, but it's basically don't cheat.

It would also be fun, though not necessary, if after a game was played, we post the game, and people try to teach others how to become better, and where they went wrong. That way it's not only entertaining, but educational!

How about 20 minutes then? And BTW, is there a non-java besed web client(java refuses to install on my machine)?

Barcik

It can also be done via IM, but that of course doesn't enable time limits. IRC is a possibility too, if both players have a board at home.

That's not trickery.  It's tactful maneuvering.  If you're a decent chess player, you should be able to recognize such moves and defend against them.

I found this program the other day: www.worldchessnetwork.com What do you think? Can it be used for the competition?

yeah it's good, vel... though still my favorite is pogo.com ;)

I just came home from my chessclub and I won!! I'm playing at the adults and I'm not really very very good... so now i won 2 , and lost 14!!

Take a look at our leaderboard of the club! I am "PR Olthof", and my brother and dad also play!

So, how about a game of chess? Anyone?

I prefer Global Thermo Nuclear War.

Anyway, how about Nightmare Chess?

esper

I'm not great at chess, but I have beaten opponents in four moves before.
This Space Left Blank Intentionally.

I'm in for Global Thermo Nuclear War (if I'll be able to clear my schedule for it, duh).

Tuomas

I wanna I wanna!

Krhm. Yes, that would be a good idea, so oyou can count me in!

My dad and my aunt's husband usually play via internet. I'm not quite sure what they use, but they can have one game going for months, like making a move when logging in, and then check again tomorrow if the other one has made a move. But I don't think that would work as a tournament.

radiowaves

Tuomas, your aunt's husband probably uses Gameknot. I used to play there too, alias is tint, so if you are up for a game, search me up! I haven't actually been there for a few months, but now I may just start again. Still, I prefer instant games. I used to play at instantchess also, but trial ended and I am not going to pay anything. So now I just use flyordie, which quite bad for organized games, you can just play with random people, but it is still go though. If you ever see ink956 there, then know its me. Anyway, I suck at chess too, but hell I still like it  :)

I registered. We could play once I understand what I'm suppose to do in order to get to that point.

Global Thermonuclear War, anyone?

Hm... I haven't played a game of chess against a real opponent in years, but I beat the AI last time I tried, so I think I'll try this, too.

radiowaves

Tuomas, I once sent you the invitation, did you use that or registered by yourself? Click "Chess" >Start your own game > search for user "tint" > challenge tint. Thats it...

I've played chess many MANY times with Ishmael. I think I've only beaten him twice. That's how much I suck. :D I'm in though. This sounds like fun.
