Dvorak Keyboard

I've switched to Dvorak! It seems nice so far, but I'll need to relearn typing

How nice. I have a friend who just recently switchdover to dvorak. I'm concidering switching over to svorak myself. but it wouldn't be optimized for english anymore. however. if i choose dvorak, how wll i be able to use my Ã¥,Ã¤ and Ã¶ keys?

use Svorak or Neverlands Dvorak or something, they exist. I've rearranged my keys and changed my settings, lol.

If learnt properly the dvorak keyboard shaves off time trying to get your fingers to the most used letters. Seriously.

But I don't think I could ever use that, not after years of instintively knowing the keyboard layout!

Dvorak is one of the great technological mythic matyrs, just like Betamax it's failure seems to translate into superiority in some people's heads, what benefits in time saved from Dvorak are more than outweighed by the economic cost of retraining.

But it's like arguing with Linux zealots or esperanto disciples, they can have fun in their niches.

i've been typing with qwerty keyboards for nearly 10 years now and there's nothing i can't do with my twisted seized up clawfingers that other people can't do with their fingers!

speaking of keyboards, i've been considering getting the "das keyboard", none of the keys have any markings on them, but i don't think i'll ever switch to dvorak, i type furiously fast as it is, and if a dvorak keyboard could help me type faster (which i think would take a few years) i'd probably end up hammering my desk's legs through the floor...

The Das Keyboards are very awesome. I don't have one, nor do I plan on getting one because of my "erratic typing." But the pressure sensitivity on some of the Das Keyboards, seems like it would be nice for a person who is a traditional typist. Also, they come in solid matte black, which makes me hot in the pants.

Yes. But some (most/all?) have pressure sensitivity so that, when typing correctly, the weaker fingers don't have to use as much pressure on the keys.

You do know that the studies done by Dvorak show that it's more efficient, but other studies have never really proven that it was any better than qwerty. Wikipedia really talks about it, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_keyboard

... and Betamax was not that great, anyway... Not compared to High-definition. Just better resolution than VHS, which is not really that much worse, and smaller tapes. It's really all Sony's fault for being stuck ups. Just like the mini disk, the UMD, and other propietary bullcrap they make up on the fly.

Nope. 3 years of QWERTY training = 52 hours of DVORAK training. It's been proven - oh, and those tests are proven biased.

I switched over to svorak. basically the same but with the Ã¥Ã¤Ã¶ keys added.

Besides. it's not like it's hard to do. jjust get the right installationfile and rearrange the keyboard keys

well maybe not a few years, but if you already know how to type it's just a case of remembering where the keys are, plus not everyone is you.
the strange thing is though that i can never remember the exact order of the second and third row of letters if somebody asks, but when i'm typing my fingers just know where they are.
