So, this afternoon I was looking for some magazines when I suddenly found one called: "Criação de Games" (which means 'Game creation') - of course that with a tittle like that it called my attention. I hadn't heard of this magazine before, but it was in the #9 already.
What was my surprise when I noticed that AGS was amongst the programs that come with the CD!!!
Of course I bought it! 8)
Here you have the image from inside the magazine where it mentions AGS:
Look at the bottom-left corner (http://www.freewebs.com/garageentertainment/miscfiles/AGSmag.jpg)
It says: "Do you remember the game Full Throttle, from LucasArts, in which you controlled the main character by clicking on objects on the screen with the mouse cursor? Well, that's the kind of game Adventure Game Studio makes"
And here is an image of inside the CD interface:
AGS description & instalation (http://www.freewebs.com/garageentertainment/miscfiles/AGSmag2.jpg)
The description has the above text plus: "It's not necessary to have much knowledge to create your own point'n'click game. All you have to do is click on the menus and set up your game the way you want it."
I'm saying this because... well, first of all finding a Brazillian magazine mentioning AGS is not something you find everyday. And also because I'm pretty sure Chris is unaware of this and I think it's something he wanted to know.
Wheter this is legal or not, I don't know - I know AGS is freeware but I think that you have to ask the author's permission to include it in a CD and sell it.
Just in case you were wondering, it has AGS v2.55 (from May 2003) Build 2.55.359 and a screenshot of Mr. Colossal's "6 Day Assassin". :-\
P.S. I wasn't sure if this should be here or in the Adventure-related talk and chat forum - since it's AGS and Adventure-related, although being something 'general' :-[
Well, if all of those programs are on the CD, they are selling rm2k3, only available in Japanese, unless you have an illeagal translated copy. That's worse than sellign freeware.
They're selling a magazine with a free cd, not a cd with a free magazine.
The CD is supposed to be a "gift".
"It's not necessary to have much knowledge to create your own point'n'click game."
comedy gold
"All you have to do is click on the menus and set up your game the way you want it."
Just as golden.

Well, it's there; and although I haven't installed it I'm quite sure it's not in Japanese.
Is it illegal, then?

Hmm, so they can put whatever they want in a CD and if they 'sell' it 'with' a magazine they aren't doing anything illegal? Like... they can say that all they are selling is a magazine that has a Cd as a 'gift'?
Well... I didn't know that.
Anyway, that wasn't my point. My point was whether they can put 'third-party' programs in a CD that comes with a magazine without even warning their authors they are doing it. ???
I mean, since AGS is in that CD shouldn't they send Chris an e-mail, at least, saying something like "Dear Mr. bla bla bla we're putting your software in a Cd which will be distributed with a magazine bla bla bla"?
Eric & m0ds: Heh, yeah... I think they exaggerated a bit there ;D

It's polite to give Chirs an e-mail, but since AGS is freeware they can legally include it without sending an e-mail.
(oops - almost forgot this thread!)

Either way I think they should've sent one... :-\
Now... let's be prepared for a (possible) "invasion".
I don't know the "target audience" of that magazine since i didn't know it; but judjing (sp?) for it's content it's mainly for amateur game developers.

P.S. What a pity Chris couldn't see this... afterall, it's the first time I see AGS mentioned in a magazine here. ;)
ags has been mentioned in a bunch of magazines, check in the ags gen archives
Including this one - PC Zone - by me (http://www.agagames.com/pics/art.gif)

...ahem...

I know it - however, this is the first time it's mentioned on a Brazillian magazine (as the title states with capital letters and all) ;)
I know it's not much (yet) but let's hope (as AGA said in his PC Zone 'article') AGS gets the attention it deserves and receives full-page reviews, CJ interviews and all ;D
(hopefully in a magazine with a 'target audience' of more mature readers)

You want to see CJ in Playboy? :o :o :o
where will he put his onion rings?
If the room is cold enough, he could probably hold them on his nipples.
Heh, all this where-to-put-the-onion-rings-talk made me remember those jokes about the dounuts in a nudity (sp?) beach... that say:
Who's the most popular man in a nudity beach?
The one that manages to hold a (blue ;D ) cup of coffee in each hand and 12 dounuts. ::)
And who's the most popular woman?
The one that manages to eat the last dounut. ::)
Ok, maybe that's not THAT funny, but then... :-\
Maybe the all-new AGS site (when it's chosen) could have a publicity section, with links to scans of all the magazine articles/letters AGS has been in...
Hmm yeah, I'm not to fond of 'Publicity' pages because they seem so egotistical and 'look at us, we're so great we've been featured in the media'-like, but it might be worthwhile to create a page listing these things, just as a handy reference for threads like this, really.
So um, can anyone remember where else AGS has featured? :P
Felipe - yes, but nobody cares.
I looked a bit into it and realised that they are distributing scenario rm2k3, a totally different engine, but the author forbids any distribution of the engine that's not completely free. (as if anyone would want srm2k3, that thing is so awfully sucky and laggy and shitty nobody would want it. Someone wasted 10 years of his/her life on that piece of crap)

Apart from the above letter AGA sent to PC Zone...
Well I remember something about Tech TV... does TV channels count too?
And if I'm not mistaken P:DA featured in PC Gamer UK (where it got a score of 80%, I think) and probably in other magazines, as might also have Larry Vales and the Tierra's games.
So, would this page feature AGS made games, too? Or would it be just about the engine itself? ???

Ok, here are some I could find:
- PC Zone: AGA's letter about Amateur Games (http://www.agagames.com/pics/art.gif) (2002)
- PC Gamer UK: Pleurghburg Review (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=7239;start=0) (July 2003?)
Scan: Review (http://www.gaspop.com/pleurghscan.jpg)
- PC Gamer: Going Deeper Underground (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=7253;start=0) - by Matthew Frith (July 2003)

Page 2 (http://www.btinternet.com/~peter.rocker/File0008.jpg)

- GameMaker: 4-page tutorial about AGS (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=8676;start=0) (November 2003?)
(The scans can be found in the link (http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/agsscan/) Custard posted above)
- PC Mundo Especial - Criação de Games: AGS Description & Download (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=11793;start=0) (Year 1, #9 - 2004)

That's all I could find... I looked for that Tech TV thing (even in their site) but couldn't find it either!
==
I wonder what was the first time AGS (or AC) ever featured in a magazine... :-\
Anyway, if this 'Publicity' page is to be made, I think it should contain the magazines (or TV channels) AGS was mentioned and also those where AGS games were mentioned.
Maybe even your interviews, Chris, even though they are 'just on websites', but it would fit the page... I reckon seeing 3, at least.
-Felipe-
Regarding the Tech TV spot, I believe it was the same program that Brian Provinciano, the SCI Studio guy, was on.
Scroll down to the news from March 24:

Nice work, Felipe :)
Incidentally, the first 3 issues of the PC Plus Tutorial are now available for download:
http://www.pcplus.co.uk/pdf/
(you want issues 207 - 209)
Actually, we probably don't need a webpage for this. If we just had a thread here, then people could simply post a reply to it to add extra links - might be easier to maintain that way.

You mean, a sticky "Publicity" page here in the gen gen... well, seems like a good idea to me! ;)
-Felipe-
P.S. Downloading those issues right now! BTW, how can I get the 4th? ???
Also in the Australian games magazine HYPER. I wrote in about AGS and it got letter of the month. That was quite a while back now...
and what have you been doing with your joystick?
.... seriously... the guy won a joystick for getting letter of the month.. I wasn't being a pervert.
This time. :o
Well I did get it sent to me eventually. Apparently there was some mix up and they decided not to send it, but then i complained and they sent it with a free game of Mortal Kombat V.
Oh and yeah... it was a steering wheel.
And its pretty much only been sitting on my shelf. I got no driving games atm.
Yeah...
