OK I was looking at the page with the AGS related links and they have a bunch of links on other adventure making software, := I looked at the other adventure creators and none of them are as good as AGS. I just want to take a survey about this, is AGS the best????
Yes!
(depending on what you want to do ::))
AGS....This is the reason why we are posting on these forums.
What does AGS mean? I am clueless!!
:)
Well, for what we love (adventure games!), AGS is the best for us.
But none of us are afraid to promote other engines. AGS isn't (and probably won't ever be) compatible with 3D. Platformers take a lot of programming and effort, almost too much effort for AGS. There are a lot of other downfalls to AGS that other programs handle better.
However, from my experience, AGS has the most helpful and kind technical support. And you can't beat that. People have done a lot of innovative things with AGS and finding programming information for your puzzle idea is super easy.
Plus we have a large following of artists, so AGS Forums is really the whole package.
AGS is quite mediocre, but we're here as the creator is sexy like hell.
The African Golfers' Syndicate is the best!!!
AGS isn't actually so much of a miracle... it's just that all other engines are actually Hitler reborn as program code.
... somehow.
There are other game creation studios now???
Yeah, but they're all made of evil and fail.
AGS, however, is made of win.
AGS is the second biggest adventure creator I've ever seen.

Kill the beast! Kill the beast!
AGS gave me herpes, but I still love it.
AGS is the worse Halo game maker I've ever used.
AGS is hardly worth it since CJ removed the Make My Game button. Before, it was teh roxxors.
No, honestly, AGS is as perfect as a stable, frequently updated, wickedly clever and free program can get. So basically there's AGS, and there's Doom.
AGS makes masturbation obsolete.
Masturbation? Bah! AGS makes SEX obsolete.
Chris deprecated sex 12 versions ago.
The primary advantage to using AGS is that it isn't the engine that was used to make Limbo of the Lost. :) It also rocks.
According to my ultra-scientific research:
AGS (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=digest): 981 games
Wintermute (http://dead-code.org/home/index.php/games/): 27 games
ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php): 8 games
AGAST (couldn't find a list of these online): ?
We rest our case :P ;D

AGS: 981 games
Wintermute: 27 games
I don't question your research, so I am extremely baffled. Wintermute's around for quite a while now; 27 games surely sounds... sounds strange. Maybe there is some truth in the idea that any toolkit is only as strong as its community.
Well talking about adventure AGS ROcks. but to make RPG RPG MAKER its a lot better.
AGS RPGS: 2,3,4...
RPG MAKER: 3241 (extimated)
Wow, an engine dedicated to RPGs has spawned more RPGs than an engine dedicated to point'n'click adventure games? And it's more efficient at that task, too? Preposterous! :o

HOW MANY RPGS WOULD RPG MAKER MAKE IF RPG MAKER WOULD MAKE RPGS?
Clue: it's an extimated number
I am going to extimate 42. :)
Atleast there arnt any good point-and-click adventures for RPG maker.
AGS, in my experience is way better documented than any other game-making software I've tried to use. Good documentation is a MUST for me, so my vote goes to AGS as the "awesmoest ever EVER!!" - No, that's not a typo; I meant to use two exclamation points.
I just want to thank you all for making this a 'very hot topic' ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
'very hot topic'?
Why ???
On side note, Wintermute games - atleast on link provided - look a bit prettier, I'd say.
Expect another "bye ags" thread ;D or not!
AGS is hot...blew. AGS is like life..you have all the tools to make it work and you just click on make my game button.
AGS is what keeps me inspired, even though my accomplishments are as lacking as those of the guy next door. Still I wouldn't consider changing. :)
I need people with awesome spriting, modeling, programming and music skillz to help me with the awesome idea I had last night, an MMORPG made in AGS called World of Limbo of the Lost Online. As to what I'll be doing to contribute to the production, I'm excellent with the whip.
Who wants to help meeee?
I've always liked some whipping and spanking. Sign me in, I could try out with sprites :)
World of Limbo of the Lost Online
heh
Ok, now you stopped joking me ;D i would explain that the "extimated" number where in relation of 3241 or 3251 or 3231... You know more 10, less 10... but its ok, what i wanted to say, is that AGS isn't the best to do Rpg games. Just that. So why someone would like to create a Rpg on AGS ??? Maybe for get experience? Maybe to try? not to be rude of course, i love ags, because you can make good adventure games, but i will not risk making a rpg game. If you can understande me, good, if no, please dont make jokes of me because i just want to explain my last post :P
Thanks. J-
I imagine that once you have the fiddly bits figured out, AGS would be very nice, as you could create puzzles and quests with that AGS quality!

So why someone would like to create a Rpg on AGS ???
Because RPG Maker makes a very set style of RPG (top-down graphics, turn based combat, fixed resolution), whereas AGS is much more flexible?
The documentation, the language, the cost, the ease of using standard adventure game bits (inventory, characters etc) plus the ability to code a huge amount of extra stuff in if you want to... that's why I use AGS. Oh, and the community's not bad either ;D
You can use most of the popular languages for just about anything (wintermute, AGS, Game Maker, RPGMaker). The question is, should you? Each one of these engines is tailor made to do one genre very, very well: For Game Maker it's platformers and games that are tile-based (including rpgs), for wintermute and AGS it's adventure games, for RPGMaker it's front view/side view rpgs.
Use the right tools for the right job if you lack coding experience, that's my advice.
