Hi, not sure if this be the correct section to post this (move it by all means...) but having noticed a link to Allegro Sprite Editor I just wondered if this is a good software to use for creating characters in AGS.

Just wanted to make sure before I think about downloading it.:)

ASE is a bit outdated, but it'll get the job done. I'd not recommend it though; these days there are much better free programs around- GrafixGale being one of them. Make sure to check the "Great Big List of Paint Programs", you are bound to find something good in there.

From my experience every program that supports layers and has a good zoom and basic pen tools does the job, the rest is pretty much your own preferrence. Onion Skinning is nice to have (GrafixGale has it) since it makes animation a bit easier.

BOOO to you Ghost. BOOO indeed.

ASE is great. ASE is great mainly because it is quick and easy.

Also, im not sure how you could call it "outdated". ASE is one of the newest kids on the block and hasnt even made version 1.0 yet.

Ah, cut me some slack  ;) I agree it's subjective, but ASE has nothing other equally free programs don't have, and the interface *is* outdated. As I said it will get the job done, it's just nothing I'd recommend.
I'd totally download New Kids On The Block, though. I hear their lead dancer is a mean spriter.  ;-D
