Title: An AGS short film
Post by: [Cameron] on Thu 16/12/2004 08:47:57
Greetings all,
Seeing that nobody reads ACR anymore I've decided to post my proposition here. Seeing it isn't a game but rather a film, this provides a tidy loophole through which i can do this. Anyway. A few days ago I wrote a concept for a short film to be made using AGS, I created the concept story and handed it over to the wonderfully talented writer Rui "Puss in Boots" Pires. Rui has completed an amazing script and i stand in awe of his talents. The slight hitch that I'm encountering is this... a weasel on crack has a better chance at producing talented art then I do. I'm looking for a talented artist who can cope with large amounts of art and animation. I'm looking for character and background artist. If you can do both I'll do anything to hire you. And i mean anything... :-* Now, the premise of the film is this. A man fed up with how he is living his life delivers a monologue about how he really feels. Man, i really suck at making it sound good, but beleive me, Rui has written amazingly. One thing that I beleive sums up the outlook in this film perfectly is this: "You sell your soul to the devil, and he gives you a king-sized receipt. It's a blue receipt, with sleeves and trousers and a huge tie. And you wear that receipt for so long you forget you ever had a soul" If anyone is interested in working on this movie please PM me or reach me at DrRaoul_Duke@hotmail.com
Regards,

Alec

Sorry, I had to bump this. I'm really keen on getting this done but as of yet no one has contacted me. Hopefully someone will.
Regards,

Alec

I'm very intersted in this project, but I'm a very bad artist, so I can't help with that...

You could post the script for the enjoyment of all of us ^^.

I might help if the game does not cuss (for those who don't know, I'm 11) farther than "crap" and "friggin" or else my mom might come in and ban the computer for a month...

Pricks, cuckold, whore, and a small dialog in an elevator that *might* be a bit suggestive, but nothing happens. No stronger words, only stronger images. ;)

I'm sorry, but I guess not. When I don't even know what one of those words means, I think it's a bit too far out. I wish you luck anyway.

As this is a site about adventure games, maybe you could adapt the script for one. AGS allows for player interactivity, so why not use it? After all, if I'd rather watch a real (professionally produced) tv show than waste a half-hour watching an cutscene of the same length scripted in AGS.
I think artists would be more willing to help with a game than with a short film-wannabe.

I don't want to meddle too much in here, but I just had to reply to this. But big brother, what's wrong with trying to make some other uses of AGS? Isn't there already a section for non-adventure games which include a FPS of sorts and even the Historical League of Boxing? AGS allows many things - I use it to view old AVIs that require 320x200, a resolution I can only get in Windows through AGS. Why should a film be something to be discouraged if it CAN be made? Isn't that like saying people should ONLY make pure adventures on AGS because that's what it was originally made for?

There's nothing "wrong" with using AGS to make things other than adventure games. If you read my post carefully, you will find that I never said anything like that. I only said it would be easier to find artists if you were working on a actual game.

QuoteAGS allows many things...Why should a film be something to be discouraged if it CAN be made?

So if something CAN be made with AGS, it SHOULD be encouraged? That's preposterous. That's like saying the AGS community should support me if I wanted to make an AGS program to view kiddie-porn or something.

In the future, please read my argument carefully before you respond with irrelevant and ridiculous statements like the one I quoted above.

It's neither irrelevant nor ridiculous, because

Quoteif something CAN be made with AGS, it SHOULD be encouraged
is putting words in my mouth. It doesn't HAVE to be encouraged; but neither should it be discouraged BECAUSE it's something else.

And thank you for your parting words. Now that I've clarified the subject they refer to, tell me again how irrelevant and ridiculous that last statement is.

Maybe I'm just the only artist who would rather work on a AGS game than a "short film" made in AGS. I don't know, my opinion does not represent that of an artistic community.

In consideration of several recent threads, my annoyance was directed at Alec. The  assumption "nobody reads the ACR thread anymore" is no excuse to ignore forum rules and courtesy. When he continued to ask for talented artists to help him complete a script he didn't write, I became annoyed. I don't think a member of the AGS community should start a project unless he/she plans to play a large role in its development. From written appearance, Alec is committing the typical newbie foible: asking for talented people to complete a project for him.
When Pussy jumped in to defend the whole "short film" thing, I manifested my annoyance at Alec by attacking the logic of Pussy's retort. Sorry if I have come off as rude, but I would really like to see these forums used to benchmark the progress of creative, talented people like in the good old days.
