Hello AGSers
Most of you will not know me and I'm not sure how many of the people I know from back in the day are still here, or even remember me...
It's been 8 years since my last confession...eeeer...I mean post! I can't believe it's been so long! I remember those days very fondly! Little Willy's posts, M0ds' highly inappropriate pictures (!), Chrile and his obsession with penis pumps (not really!) and CJ helping out everyone. Naranjas, Goldmund, Roadkill, Mr. Colossal, Skid and of course Helm and Spyros the other 2 G.A.C. members! And so many many more people that I'd like to list...
As for me, well, I somehow couldn't manage the time anymore so I haven't been part of this community or trying to make a game for a real long time.
What I've been up to since then is
- working as a teacher
- Playing some music with the Empty Frame (http://www.myspace.com/theemptyframe (http://www.myspace.com/theemptyframe))
- Doing my webcomics - recently being translated to English (http://www.balderduck.com (http://www.balderduck.com))
and generally getting older
So why did I post here again after all these years?
well, here's a bunch of reasons:
1) NOSTALGIA: I was reading the AGS wiki and checking out some new games, and I really wanted to see what my old friends are up to. So if you're one of the guys that knows and remembers me feel free to PM me or add my facebook account (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=100001875911060 (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=100001875911060))
2) A REQUEST: The links for my old games (ROBERT REDFORD SAVES THE DAY and INFERNO) are missing and I can't seem to find them anywhere on my old archives. If anyone keeps an archive of games and has any of these two, please PM me I'd really like to play them again
3) WISHFUL THINKING (?): I got really jealous playing those AGS games, and I'd really like to make one again! I don't know if I can make the time, but eversince I got this wave of nostalgia I've also got a wave of ideas about games...we'll see...we'll see...
Butcherrrrrrr!!!!! As Spyros would quote and as a fellow greek: "Pou ston Butcho isouna?" :D
We haven't really met, but as I've dug lots and lots of AGS archives of the EZBoard era, you're quite the ROCKSTAR there! It'd be awesome if you'd stick around! Though none of the old'greek gang hangs around anymore. Helm is long gone, Spyros as well, and Nikolas and Alkis post quite a little. And there's me. But that's all there is from Greek community.
m0ds is still around, Naranjas hasn't been around 2 hours since I joined the forums for the first time, Eric is timetravelling, Roadkill has been around occasionally, and Goldmund as well. The old gang is quite absent. But there's still m0ds damnit!
If you have any request of your old posts from the EZBoard just name it. I can trace everything. Just you name it.
Sorry if I'm overwhelming you, but I never thought you'd come around anymore and it makes me more than happy to see you.
EDIT: CHECK THIS OUT. NOSTALGIA FACTOR 11/10 (http://web.archive.org/web/20020305002030/pub6.ezboard.com/fdosuserforumsfrm5.showMessageRange?topicID=97.topic&start=1&stop=20)
Wow! Thanks!
Thanks for digging up that thread as well! :) it's really REALLY moving to read it...
Those links barely work unfortunately. Images and exes are dead of course, and I think only page 1 works from that topic.
Here's an epic topic:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020113233239/pub6.ezboard.com/fdosuserforumsgeneraldiscussion.showMessage?topicID=382.topic
And here's a topic related to new years resolutions by Mr Colossal
http://web.archive.org/web/20020502234823/pub6.ezboard.com/fdosuserforumsgeneraldiscussion.showMessage?topicID=714.topic
I did some tour on the old forums to get those. Now I remembered how boring the forums have turned.
*Dualnames feels depressed*
Oh, and to say that Helm has actually pulled off a Yahtzee on AGS. He has a comic blog somewhere and is still a member in many communities.
Oh my fucking God! It's the man with no pants! Strike me dead if I am wrong in remembering you as the naked-from-the-waist-down guy...
Back from AGS oblivion is right! It's great to hear about what you've been up to!
You probably don't remember me, but I was around on the old EZ Board forum long before you left - my nickname then was SnakeEggz. I remember you and the rest of the gang you mentioned above.
GREAT to see you return and I'd love to see you make more games :D
PS
And people around here started thinking AGS was dying... *pfft

Why not start new topics with exactly the same posts as those back in 2002 (without telling anybody, of course) and then compare how the train of communal thought has changed over the years? If you get less exciting responses than in 2002 you will have indeed proven your theory, but at the same time generated some personal excitement at having us as unwitting participants in your master experiment. If you get more exciting responses than in 2002 then you can quietly discard your theory and reap the dividends of living in truly the best of times. Finally, if you get equally exciting posts (which, if you want to be picky about semantics, would be the
exact same posts), then you can live the exciting reality of being caught up in a nine year feedback loop which keeps repeating over and over and over again. Just remember to bet huge on the Red Sox in 2004 and if the number 3 starts repeating itself over and over again do whatever Commander Riker suggests.

It's not you or anyone else really. It's that let's talk shit and be excited about it that is missing. It was more amateur back then. Of course I'm glad that there are cool ags games and all, but I hate that somehow the forums have matured. It's like Tea Time. Everyone knows it's gonna come eventually, but it's boring as f#$^.
pfft, I'm happy to chat shit.
Get someone to start a religion/politics thread. I'll 'offend' someone on the first page.
A religon thread is way overdue... We haven't had one in like a year?
I miss all the atheists being told they are just close minded, and all the religious people being told they are ignorant :D
I don't know how the forums are like now
Back then the community was very very active and the people involved were some of the most interesting and funny people you could ever meet in your lifetime.
Maybe it's still is this way...I can't tell
Well when I wrote that post I was under the impression that the AGS community has grown a lot and was a lot more active, it's strange to see you talk about AGS being dead, as well as seeing that the forums move a lot more slower than what I remember. It's quite a surprise to me.
@snakeeyes Sure I remember you! And yeah for some reason I used "I was the one without any pants on" as my catchphrase :)
I think the change in the forums may also be part of a change in the way we use the internet. With the popularity of Facebook and the like, I suspect people are more likely to talk nonsense and get into silly debates with their real-world friends.
That makes the AGS forums somewhere people come to talk a tiny bit more seriously about graphics / game design - thing our real-world friends may not care so much about?
Anyway, welcome back! I registered after you left, but the mention of the Elder Gods in your post was a nice bit of nostalgia.
Quoteas well as seeing that the forums move a lot more slower than what I remember.
The bigger the monster, the slower it moves.
Also, hello.
Well hello to everyone!
Ali, I must say, I played some AGS games before coming to the forum, and Nelly Cootalot is just FANTASTIC! It's exactly my kind of game. Wonderful cartoony graphics, great humor, reasonable puzzles, all in all one of the best games around (and I didn't say one of the best AMATEUR games, I said one of the best games, period.)
Welcome back Butcher... I don't think we've had the pleasure of meeting as I'm [relatively] new... I'm Stupot.
I don't know if the forums are 'dead' or 'boring'... just different. They can't be that bad, otherwise I wouldn't keep coming back everyday. I think Ali's nailed it on the head, really. Forums in general are a lot less active than they were 5-10 years ago.
It's kind of sad that after 4 years I still feel like kind of a newbie. But maybe that's my fault for still not having made a game or done anything worthwhile with AGS. But everyone keeps banging on about 'the good-old-days' and I sometimes wonder whether I should be taking that slightly personally - like I'm part of the demise of the forums or something.
But I enjoy posting here, and have a lot of respect for many guys here. We should be looking to the furtue and not dwelling on the past... The old crew are all on Facebook and probably talk to each other there or on MSN/Skype and really have little need for these forums anymore apart from to plug their new games. If they think the rest of us are boring, that's not really our concern.
There's no denying it, the forums have slowed down and matured.
I used to be all like 'OMG Hi guyz! Fanx for all the lovely comments butI'm gonna start a new GIP thread now!!!'
Now i wouldn't dare start a GIP thread :P
Maybe the superhero moderators are scaring people off posting, i know for a fact that a good deal of my posts get deleted within the hour; because they're off topic. Fair game, but having no silly posts leads to no silly conversations which ultimately leads to a lack of fun stuff to read.
Also i fail at spelling and grammer, so a lot of my posts fall prey to the 'i can type good, honest!' style of posting. Which becomes very sterile to read.
Oh well, Dualnames still makes me laugh :D
Oh and Butcher, Hey! Do you need me to hold the door open for you? You're looking good for your age! etc...
...and Eric, if you're reading this. Where's my copy of Time Out? It's been an epic wait!

THERE'S A MAN WHO KNOWS HIS SHIT!! FOR REALZ!!1!!11!11
Thumb up if you hate Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber and you are in the 2% of the kids that listen to Rock and Roll!
HAXOR MY BOXOR OWNAGE!!
Hello Kyriakos! Nice to see you here, usually I just see you logging into MSN (via Hotmail I assume) and then disappearing a second later! Hope you're doing well! Without a doubt the people about now aren't the same ones from the earlier years, but there's always some fun stuff to read. Granted, the debates aren't quite as heated as they may have been once with Helm and co on the scene ;)
Hopefully you'll be enthused enough to make another side splitting adventure of Robert Ford...or something equally insane ;) In the meantime, I'll set to work uploading some more soft porn. Take care dude!
HEY MODS! :) Nice to see a familiar...name(?) :)
Well as I said I'm not here to make judgement of the new forums as I know nothing about them! But the old forums were a very silly place indeed!
It is also Sad to say, that CJ doesn't even seem very active these days. I think he just stops by and checks up on us.
Domino :)
I like in the Robert Redford 2 thread how you specifically stated the download size. Oh the days of dial-up, each 128x300 pornographic super lossy jpg took 10 minutes to download.
Nice to see you back. :)

If you enjoyed Nelly Cootalot you should play a little known series called 'Monkey Island'. It rips off a lot of my ideas, but it's still pretty good.
Incidentally, I think Robert Redford Saves the Day was probably the first AGS game I ever heard of!

Rip offs are fine for a while, but when are we going to get Nelly Cootalot 2? You can't tease us endlessly with that avatar!
With that kind of avatar you can tease all you want. That's the sort of beard you could well hide a religious threat in, so double points for just that!
Also hello Butcher- I did register around the time you left, so I have the honour of knowing "those times" and the hope that the two events are coincidal ;)
Damn this thread is all about nostalgia.
Ahh the ezboard days were a lot of fun. Things definitely have slowed in recent years but I dont think that is a bad thing. back in the day I couldn't get anything done because I was too interested in where the conversation would go next.
Anyway... Welcome back to the jungle. I remember the good times playing RRStD. Hope to see you around for a while...
@Layabout
Yeah! You had to back then! :) And people would be "What? 12 MB? I'm not wasting my time to download that!"
:)
@Ali
Monkey Island? Never heard of it! Are you making this up?
How on earth did you hear about Robert Redfords Saves The Day? It was wildly unpopular! :)
@Ghost
So you're the one that ruined it for everyone eh? I KNEW IT!
@cpage
Hey! I remember you! :) Yes, looking back RRStD wasn't a very good game but at least for the people in the community it was fun. If anyone wants to see the old gang most of them play - or voice act on the INTRO of RRStD 3 :) M0ds of course in the starring role!
I'll maybe stick around and try to find the time to start something new...
can't make any promises though...kinda busy on the www.balderduck.com (http://www.balderduck.com) site
I <3 you.
EVENWOLF!!! YAY! I remember you very well! I seem to recall a thread about Michael Moore asking you for a tape of your movie or something :) Although it's been 7 years so it might have been Gary Moore asking you for an adhesive tape...
Hey, some one I remember.
Squinky!!! Were in name's of god have YOU been?! :D
Hey dude!
I shifted away towards other interests, like we all do. I'm just making my yearly pass through here, thinking I might get back into it. But these visits of mine don't typically "stick". Although I would love it too :)

It's cool Squinky. It's nice to see you pass though. I'm still secretly in love with you. In the manliest way possible of course :D
I'm the same as Squinky. (it took me this long to come back to see if you responded, lol.)
We had a lot of good times Butcher. I think we were both IN a game together by 2ma2. Feel free to email me any time: jessespots ART gmail DART com
Hey Evenwolf I just did! :)
Well, did you guys check out my comic? You can by clicking on my signature
Please give me some feedback on it...thanks
Squinky, make Pirate Fry 4 >:(
Is it sad that I didn't instinctively know where the reply button was on these new fangled forums?
The community has changed, which is probably because we've all changed. Many of us from ezboards still float around occasionally to see what's up, but we're all consumed by other hobbies or simply life.
Mittens seems to be an event where some of us older members meet the newer members, and there's a closer feeling of the old community. The newer members are obnoxious and immature, which means they fit right in.
-MillsJROSS
Hello.
So those oldie got games vanished? Nobody has a backup of them? Damn...
Regards.
Hey Butcher loved your music, btw.
well thanks xenogia!
What is this place? Who are you people?
I'd like to ask you the same question!!
Hi Butcher, nice seeing you again. It's not like I hang around here regularly, but I pop in once or twice each 6 months to see if something extreme has happened ;) Once a year, I download the latest version of the engine, install it, open it, stare at it for 10 minutes, and then uninstall it from the computer.
Hey, Butcher! Nice to see you again after so many years! :-) You probably don't remember me, but we talked a few times on IRC (including a nice conversation about "hitting eggs" on Easter, as we are both Eastern Orthodox :-)) and I enjoyed your games immensely. I often remember that line "You look like Harrison Ford, Robert Redford!" and it brings the smile to my face, like right now :-)
I have been hesitating with posting on this topic for a while now, as I feared other people would find out that I don't know all these random people who have posted here!
Kidding, of course :=, as I eventually posted here.
My favourite bot! How's the largest economic region in the world doing these days?
(I may be talking about your pants. I may be talking about the scenery. You decide.)
And how are you? ;D
Yo, The Butcher!
You'll find that most people from the good old days, including me, no longer frequent these forums :(
We're on facebook now, I think...
What's really scary is that I've been officially here for almost seven years, and a couple of names in this thread had already begun to move on sometime before that. :-\
I still remember them from my lurking days, though.
Haha yeah but it feels like home :)
Welcome back Butcher, and on that note welcome back Afflict :P
