Title: animated gif files
Post by: Steel Drummer on Tue 28/03/2006 05:10:43
how do I get animated .gif files like the ones on indylc2.com?

What exactly are you asking?

how do you create animated gifs from several static images, or just how to import gifs into ags?
--------------------
Edit* I agree with Gilbot below, and you will need to go to google and input "gif creator" or "gif maker" and you'll get one. Try to get one that doesn't put watermarks, or images all over the final .gif

Post moved from Beg. Forum.

I think he's asking about creating animated GIFs, not importing, in that case it doesn't belong in this forum.

I know how to import them into ags, but I don't know how to post them on the forums/websites so people can see the whole animation.

And for websites go here: http://www.pagetutor.com/pagetutor/makapage/.

(basically, it goes (http://mysite.org/somepicture.gif) )

That's HTML, and HTML isn't allowed in this forum.

The SMF way of doing it would be:

[ img ]http://www.someurl.com/image.ext[ /img ]

where "www.someurl.com/" is the domain name and folder, i.e., if you use a free host like SiteSled it would be "www.sitesled.com/members/membername/" (where membername is the member's user name); and "image.ext" is the name of the file, i.e. "picture.gif" or "skyline.jpg" or whatever.

For instructions on how to make animated GIFs, click here (http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/)..

Sorry for the harshness, but I mean seriously, did this require a thread?

EDIT:
And look for this link, when you post something..

How do I post images, smileys and formatting? (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/Themes/default/help/posting.english.html#bbcref)

It's right above "THINK BEFORE YOU POST!" ..something you don't seem to do.

well, this originally was on the beginner's forum but got moved. I just wasn't sure if i needed a program or not to animate them and post them on the internet. I asked on the indylc2 forums and they actually HELPED. Thanks a whole frickin' lot.

Okay, I'll say this again.

yoda, if you want any respect here, you might try getting rid of your attitude. People will give you crap for threads like this because you -should- have thought before you posted, and you -should- have checked the sticky threads. Above all, you -should- have read the "How to post smileys" etc link.

Just say, "Whoops! Sorry, I didn't see those things before. Sorry guys, I'll think before I post next time".

I might also point out that people -did- help you you here.

well I'm just pointing out that people aren't very friendly on this forum. The only thing their good for on this is for finding people to help you make a game. IMO, this forum sucks.

O don't get your knickers in a twist, we are a quite friendly forum. I have seen much worse, believe me. you can't expect people to instantly respect you, it just doesn't work that way. make your game, and PROVE to us that it doesn't suck, it seems to me your just full of hot air. so cool down and get your head out of your umm.. umm.. bumm.
its not the end of the world. show us what you can do and we wil be happy to comment.just don't come in like you are king of the world. it ALWAYS backfires.

Oh for heavens sake.  Do you read people's posts, or do you just think everyone else is below and therefore trying to usurp your awesomeness?  All it takes is a vaguely pleasant attitude, and you'll get along fine.  Be an arrogant ass like you did in the above quote, and criticise the people here, and you'll find yourself on the business end of the "you suck stick".

You posted many times before, with a variety of inanely craptacular threads.  I've given you the benefit of the doubt in the past.  No matter what you do in the future, I'm willing to accept you'll change your attitude for the better.  In all honesty, from what I've seen in the past, you've been given a better chance than some of the like-minded, new people on this forum.  They all thought they were better than everyone else here, too, and threw sissy-fits when someone said anything they didn't agree with.

If you can find a better and more friendly forum, please let me know.  I'll join, post in your style and see what the response is.  No, seriously, please do.  It'll be an interesting experiment.  Until then, try acting maturely and accepting some advice and/or criticism once in a while instead of whining about it like a spoilt child.

Get off your high horse yodaman. Try the search button before you post. Too many times, people like you (and me... i too did this once^^ mark: with a slightly smaller attitude) post new threads asking for help with something that has already been said too many times. Or something that is on this (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/Themes/default/help/posting.english.html#bbcref) link.

I'm not mad right off the bat when people criticize negatively my art, but when EVERYONE does, I get pretty ticked. I mean, that's pretty much the best I can do.

Yes, but you're like, what, 12? It just takes dedication and practice, and lots of it. Just try to use single lines for outlines of objects in your background.  Instead of posting many bg's in the critics lounge, post one, and we'll all work on it together, and hopefully give you a way to work on each subseqent background, but of course we can help you along when you need help.

40 actually. That would be great if people could help improve my bgs.

Em, I'm 14 and I'd love to teach you if you'd like?

EDIT: I mean, to draw better bgs, not using .gif or flash. Well, maybe anims too.   ;)

1st improvement: use a line tool (or shift-clicking in some paint programs) rather than freehand draw

but my games all have rubbish art, but I don't post in the Critics Lounge unless I want to try and improve. Improving means people telling you waht is wrong with your art, if you can't see it yourself.

Insulting the forum or people certainly aint the way to go

When you post something in public, everyone is entitled to an opinion about it. It is up to you which opinions you take to your heart. You are entirely free to post crap, get scolded for it, and ignore those comments. Sadly it won't improve you.
If you are too self-critical, you will just be wasting your time on ignorant opinions, that have no motivations. You have to learn to filter everything around you.
When everyone ridicules you and your art, you are either a genius or your stuff just isn't up to standards. Especially fan remakes are prone to insults. I wouldnt want to see Doom Patrol (especially Mr. Nobody, the painting that ate Paris, the Dada stuff) remade in AGS by anyone without previous experience and under the age of say 25. Fanboys are a tough crowd.
