I'm trying to learn the 3dsmax basics by following the tutorials that come with 3dsmax 5. There is one particular tutorial where you have to model an apple and use soft selection to change the shape of the bottom half. Unfortunatley I've done exactly what the tutorial says, but the mesh refuses to take the shape of the soft selection curve.
According to eric, he had the same problem but he doesn't remember how to fix it. Anyone else know?
I'm no expert but it should be reasonably simple. Say you create a Sphere/Geosphere first, right click on it and convert to Editable Mesh or Poly. Next look to the right side and click the + next to Editable Poly/Mesh and select Vertex then select the bottom vertex of the Sphere/Geosphere. Look to the right side again and click on the +Soft Selection rollout and tick Use Soft Selection and change the Falloff to about 20 or so, then select the Move tool at the top and just drag the vertex up.
Hopefully this kinda works/helps.
i think LGM once posted pics of the apple he did, i presume he followed the same tutorial
For some reason the moving bit wouldn't work, so I started over from scratch and then it worked fine. Thanks anyway!
so you're telling me you just started over again and it worked?
Better not let God hear about this.

That's what's so strange, I redid it several times. So I gave up on it for a while and then tried again, then it worked.
