Title: Any else getting an error for the search function of these forums?
Post by: KodiakBehr on Mon 22/08/2011 00:55:14
Apologies if this is a repeat post...I wouldn't know without being about to use the search function...

Yes, the search option is indeed broken.

Without search capability I am forced to appear unknowledgeable in front of others!

1) How did Dualnames configure a server to allow for online interactions in an AGS game for this year's AGS awards?
2) Why does FRAPS only work with AGS games compiled with the post 3.0 editor?!?
3) Who has been talking about my games recently?!?!??!?!?!?!!?

I can answer number 1. And that was done via the IRC server, completely irrelevant to the AGS server. Which is also justified and verified, because when the forums are down, the irc server isn't.

And also because from unverified but reliable sources, dasjoe created the internet. Some 20 years ago.

Is it maybe time to fix the forum search now? 'Cause now it's affecting me, and this I can not allow!

Reminds me of a certain polemic AGS-quizz question.

Hey folks. If anyone of you really needs to search the forums, why not use the omnipresent and omnipotent Google?!  ;D

Just write: "site:http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb [SEARCH TERMS]" into the Google search field... It's so easy... ;)

I figured it out! To use the search feature you need a premium account.

It's only $5 a month and you get the link to delete your account, promotion to moderator, as well as access to the secret sub-forums naturally.  So just PM me all your bank details, and I'll set you up with premium so you don't have to := There are lots of fraudsters out there on the internet but believe me, your cold hard cash is safe with me.

Hooray the forum is back.  :D
I'm very glad that it works again, at least as before, but is it possible to make it a little bit more comfortable?
i dont know who is liable for the Techsettings, but it couldnt be a great effort to alter the Searchfunction:

PLEASE add the possibility to sort the founded entrys via date.
(I'm missing this feature badly ever since i'm here.)  :P
As this is the smf forumsoftware, this "feature" is standard for all the Forumsversions i know.

Calin's words turned out to be strangely prophetic. I changed my mind so count me as an advocate for new forum software. But not just for the sake of it. The broken calendar (which Duals has been reminding us about for god knows how long), search function, and two days' downtime showed it would be a good idea. And not necessarily immediately. Incidentally what happened to the shiny new website, that was awesome!

If we do revamp the forum code, I would like to see whatever is in the

to be colored in the fashion of how AGS colors everything in script. Or at least something very similar.

We have also a SMF-Forum for Maniac-Mansion-Mania with AGS-Code Tags.
As you can see here, for example -> http://www.maniac-mansion-mania.de/forum/index.php?topic=1857.0
This Forum-Plugin is written by Endres, and if he dont complain it could be used by the Admin here.
(I think he will feel honored if so.  :))

If there will be a revamp, one most wanted feature is to just disable the TXT-spelling filter completely, or make it smarter so that it won't filter text enclosed by the
tags, or give a checkbox to manually disable it when a post is edited. I think just disabling it completely is good enough as I don't think that many users here would frequently type their posts in confusing 1337-5p34k.

The ability to embed YouTube videos would come in handy now and then, as well. I think we should just switch to vBulletin.

Smf could do all that -> http://www.maniac-mansion-mania.de/forum/index.php?topic=124.720
The only weak point is the admin.  ;)

Look at the moderators, in this board its c.leksutin -> http://www.bigbluecup.com/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=50
Last Active 2005  :o
So i think its time to search for an admin with more commitment, yet.  :-\

People better not mess with c.leksutin.

Otherwise HE MIGHT COME BACK!  :o
