Well, E3 2004 pre-show has come and gone, and here are the results:
http://www.gametrailers.com
Check out the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker 2 and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes trailers.
No more cel-shadedness. Hurrah.
That looks awsome, but I'm going on record as saying that I thought WW was one of the coolest looking games of all time.
Legend of Zelda is my all time favorite game series. I was very much expecting another Cel-Shaded version but as long as it is rocking all over everything then I won't bitch.
Btw, E3 2004 is far from over.. just to clear any confusion. I assume dart is refering to the pre-e3 show. E3 starts tommorow. I think. Stupid Pre-E3, Post, Normal, Batman E3 stupid blah.. It is like the grammys but with less clevage and more salivating adolesences.
I still say the Snake Eater trailer is teh r0x0r.
Yeah... I meant the pre-show. I think I'll go change my wording now to correct any confusion that might come from it.
And about the cel-shading in Wind Waker; although I thought it was brilliant, well put-off and innovative, I still wished for a realistic style.
Well, when the first Legend of Zelda demonstration in Spaceworld 2001 came out, I was most pleased that, first, there would be another Zelda game, but also for the fact that it looked simply awesome and "mature-like". However, when Nintendo announced the game would be a "Celda", I was instantly disappointed. I even thought about not getting the game, but now I'm glad that I did. I guess you really can't judge a book by its cover.
But enough of my rambling. Hmm. I wonder if this new game will be featured on the Nintendo DS or on the Gamecube....
Woah, that Zelda trailer rocks! :o
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the original game they began making and showed a snippet of at Spaceworld, and just put it off for a while when they started Wind Waker...
Also, it looks more like a sequel to Ocarina of Time with that Link instead of the Wind Waker version, as everything looked similar to Hyrule of old, but much much bigger and much more detailed.
/me thinks he will now need to buy a Gamecube or Gamecube 2 or whatever system it is on...
Transformers... YES! I'm buying that game the week it comes out!
Ah. but is it the Transformers of old, or the new crappy version with those little fuckhead kids in it? :-\
Is there one solid story the Zelda saga follows? Or is it a bunch of variations? I get so confused.
Each game is set inside its own little time in the same world... and it is basically the story of Zelda, Link and Ganon as these get reincarnated into every time period...
Heres a little thing about the Zelda Timeline that I found:
http://www.detstar.com/zeldawindwaker/view.cfm?class=article&ID=19
edit: You could also check out: www.zeldauniverse.net
edit: I had a Nintendo magazine from a few years ago when OOT was released, that had a very detailed timeline as to where everything fit in. I would look for it and scan it, but the thing is probably in my cupboard full of magazines, and I don't wanna go through them all... (i've got two stacks in there that are 6 feet high :S)
I only played the old black and white gb version of Zelda, (I think you played Link). You were washed on an island, and you kept seeing this funny owl who gave you advice all the time.
I rather enjoyed it, and wish I could have finished it, but the rom is on my old PC, which crashed.
I was a big fan of Legend of Zelda back in the day, when it was on the NES, Metroid also (for some odd reason I thought Samus was hot... but I was only 10 at the time...). I liked both of those games on the SNES, and I played the Metroid for the old b&w game boy, it was really time consuming... I kept getting lost. But lately, none of the newer games for the newer consoles really catch my attention all that much.
I, too, am a big fan of the Zelda series. In fact, I can say without a doubt that it's my favourite game series of all time. I'm definitely, as with most things, a fan of the original NES and SNES games more than the newer ones. Zelda 1 is still one of my favourite games ever, and that goes for A Link to the Past too. Ahh, what a wonderful game...
WindWaker, though, really blew me away. It didn't really have the same feeling as the originals in a lot of areas, but overall it's just a freaking brilliant game. I'd probably have to say one of the best modern games. If not, The. Overall, and even though I could complain about a few things, it just has a feel and a style that seems so complete, and works so well.
I'm still downloading the trailer, and even though I was disappointed at hearing it isn't cel shaded (I loooove cel-shading, even though I was originally skeptical when I heard the original WW was like that), the screenshots look nice. Personally, my favourite Link, and the Link I will always consider to be Link, is the original squat sprite ^_^ Still, that's never going to happen again on a console game so I won't complain.
I really hate them making Link too old though. People may say that you can't make out exactly what the original sprite was supposed to be, but there was always art in the manuals and that showed what Link looked like. From what I've seen, this new games seems to have done it alright.
As most other people of the NES generation, I simply adored Zelda. The music, the mood, everything.
Windmaker seemed cool, although it was rather long since I ended my period of active game-playing (nowadays I only try out the newest AGS-games, plus some spontaneous beat-em-up while at my buddy's place).

Well, Link doesn't look too old/young there. He looks to be about... 16-ish?
Also, I figured out that this new Zelda game will be on the Gamecube. Looks like I won't be spending another couple hundred bucks for the Nintendo DC.
And also, here's an excerpt from IGN as soon as the new Zelda trailer ended:
"After the display ended and the crowd settled, Nintendo designer and director Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage with Master Sword and shield in hand and addressed lucky attendees. "I am not Link, but I do know him!" he joked. "Even after 18 years the Legend of Zelda never stops changing and this game is no different. We are now taking you to a world where Link has grown up -- a world where he will act different and look different. In order to grow, Link must not stand still and neither will I. Thank you and goodbye." With a few more sword swings, Miyamoto stepped off the stage."
Bah. I can't wait for this game... I think that shows a little too much.
That timeline never mentions the NES Zeldas.. Does it?
I just hope this new Zelda game can move on from the earlier 3d Zelda games. Wind Waker was pretty much the same as OoT gameplay wise, so hopefully this game can introduce something new. But even if it doesn't it'll still be awesome.
I ALMOST fancy the new Link, rawr.
i'm looking forward to Metroid Prime 2, and i've not even finished Metroid Prime yet!
i'm also looking forward to the metroid movie, MP is about the only console FPS i actually like and didn't just get pissed off with because of stupid controls, it's a great looking game too, and if i stop getting lost looking for that big plant boss again i might get to see even more of it...
I've only played the 2D Metroid on the SNES, i didn't really think too much of it at the time... and still don't. I haven't tried the GC game yet.
OH
MY
GOD!
I bought a Gamecube a few weeks ago and a XBOX yesterday. I was beginning to regret the GC until I saw that trailer. HOLY CRAP, that is beautiful.
What is the release date...?
EDIT: I see a 2005 release date at nintendo.com...bummer. Long wait, I'm sure it will be worth it though.
later,

Holy flying dog turd of the apocalypse!
I LOVE NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/screenshotgallery?gameid=54610f14-1826-4d46-9981-8f72874aee2e&).
Also, the new Metroid screens for the DS (http://p067.ezboard.com/fnintendohq14987frm1.showMessage?topicID=2580.topic)* look awesome - they easily beat the playstation, and probably the N64 too. Kickarse (and may I add what a pleasure it is that the noble Metroid series has finally been reinstated as a prime (excuse the pun) player in the Nintendo line-up).
*Excuse the link to the board.
What's the DS??? Am i behind the times??
The DS is Nintendo's new handheld with two screens.

Those games are mentioned in the timeline in the middle somewhere... OOT is actually the first in the series when it comes to timeline, and then its Majoras Mask, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, and then its A Link to the Past, Legend of Zelda 1 and then LOZ II: Links Adventure... it goes something like that... re-read the timeline and you'll be able to see the story arc of each game.
