Title: Any Top-10 of AGS games?
Post by: Pilpoilplante on Thu 28/05/2015 06:42:50
In fact, that title says it all: I'm looking for some sort of list that could have been made about games on here.

I just came on this forum, I want to try out making those, but I also want to discovers little pieces of art. Anyone could suggest or link me?

Thanks!

A good place to start might be the list of AGS Award winners and also the Pick Of The Month list. That's where I started and I was rarely disappointed...

Jim did a Top Ten list a few years ago (http://ags-ssh.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/top-ten-best-ags-games.html).

I've done top ten lists of adventure games and freeware adventure games, but didn't ever do a specific AGS-made games list.

For suggestions, it would help to know about bit more about what kind of adventure game your like - 1st person / 3rd person?  Comedy / mystery / detective / horror?  Fantasy / sci-fi / real-world setting?  Free only or free and commercial?  (There are just SO MANY games made with AGS that it would help to be able to narrow the field down a bit :cheesy:)

Restricting yourself to the top 10 would mean missing out on loads of gems, but I guess you can play the rest afterwards?

Like that one.

Down there.

Nudge nudge, wink wink.

In addition to the top ten list, check out The Shivah, Primordia, and Time Gentleman Please!  A Tale of Two Kingdoms remains popular in terms of downloads and is a great game with a big scope.  For an AGS non-adventure game I'd recommend Red Hot Overdrive.

Got to add The Art of Dying as another great AGS non-adventure game.

Thanks alot you guys! I found the Awarded Games you were talking about... And there's so much of those on this website, I might have to spend the year completing them all.. With all my pleasure!

Just did Visitor 1, really liked it. I really enjoy good humour, absurdity (my Avatar isn't Threepwood for nothing ;) ), and I like to have a good scare, too...

I'll try some of the games you suggested! Thanks again!

P.S : I remember playing Yathzee games few years ago, those REALLY pleased me. Maybe you know some that could be alike?

Crystal Shard games are usually a sure thing in my experience, although I'm not sure if they ever ventured in to comedy territory?? There was this one game from another about a dinosaur or something... :P

The Apprentice games (by Herculean Effort) are very awesome to look at, and pretty well written too- the first one's short enough to play during your lunch break, the second one has a much larger scope. Worth checking out. I also keep Two of a Kind in my personal Top10 because it's one of a kind.

Don't forget to try Apprentice 2 then!  Apparently the third game may still be in production, sort of.

Give The Lost Prince of Lorden a try, which is pure adventure, and
The Decorcist which is Platform/Adventure. Both are by RetroJay and
very entertaining.

Thanks! And yes, we did. For example, Warthogs (http://crystalshard.net/index.php?g=11) and Oceanspirit Danish (http://crystalshard.net/index.php?g=21) are comedic games.
