Title: Anyone who's into crappy movies?
Post by: He-Man on Mon 09/05/2005 15:44:08
Hi!
This question might sound silly but a couple of my friends and me like watching movies that are funny while trying to be serious. But it's kind of hard to find these movies if you don't know anyone else who knows someone who know of the movie... You get the point!
What I'm looking for are movies that are so crappy that they are great. I hope you know what I mean.
So does anyone in here know some really stupid movies worth watching?

I'm talking about something along the lines of
Hercules in New York (the undubbed version is the greatest movie ever made IMO)
Boa vs Python (just plain stupid)
Battle Royal (the ending makes it all worth while)
ect...

Your pal
Niels

Ps. I do not mean to offend anyone who might think that these movies are good movies.

Have you watched Commando? You know, the one where Arnold Schwarzenegger (or how do you spell it) plays the role of the main character called Matrix. I bet that's the kind of thing you are looking for. ;D I always laugh my brains out when I'm watching those "serious" Schwarzenegger movies. ;)

Space Mutiny (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096149/)
I nearly died laughing. Especially great is a scene where they tried to think how people would dance in the future - well, with hulla-hoops!!! And the color of the lasers change countless times! The machine room of the spaceship looks very much like the inside of an old factory and the commander looks like Santa Claus!
Oh, I forgot, there are TWO commanders on the ship, and they have both armys, and they are fighting each other - oh, but watch some pretty neat space battle scenes - from Babylon 5!!

This movie is the pure pleasure, I bought it for 1.60 â,¬ - nah, not really, the postal costs were 3.00 â,¬ on top!

Look in the web for "Mistery Science Theatre 3000". You will easily get a list of the crappiest movies ever. (Also very easy to obtain through certain P2P programs, I'm told, not that I ever would do such thing, *cough*)

And I can recommend "Manos, hands of fate", wich is the worst movie in history according to the IMDB. "You failed us Torgo!"

State Property (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301893/)

This movie is so incredibly god-awful that it's almost worth suffering through just to make fun of it.  It's a bunch of imbecile street thugs trying to act like ... imbecile street thugs.  They come off looking like a bunch of chumps who my grandmother wouldn't be afraid of.  It's so 'wannabe' that it's laughable.

They somehow managed to get Jay-Z to be in the movie.

And there's good news if you love the movie ...

They're actually making a sequel cleverly titled; State Property 2 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403537/) ... I tingle with anticipation for another gripping portrayal of life in the 'hood.

I deem a scale that classifies Battle Royale as a bad film to be a curious scale indeed.
Title: Re: Anyone who's into crappy movies?

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about!

State Property and Space Muntiny sound like they would be very good company. I'm going to watch those one day.

Arnold S. is the main reason I've falling these kind of movies.  Hercules in New York is his best IMO and also his first. If you do not find that movie funny I don't know what is!

But he also has some really great lines in Commando:
"You're a funny guy, Sully... That's why i'm gonna kill you last!"
Later in the movie: "Hey Sully, you remember when I told you I would kill you last... I lied!"

and End of Days after being accused as a liar:
"I know what I hört!" <- one of my favorite quotes

Thanks...

I love bad films. We use to get together and watch movies at school, sometimes really good ones, sometimes the opposite. But Battle Royale is not in any way a bad movie. That's saying Hana-Bi is a bad movie.

Onward to the movies!

Cabin Fever - we saw a pirated version, so it may be a rought cut. Either way, we all laughed our brains out. "Pancaaakes!" I don't know if it's meant to be fully serious, but it fails in every aspect anyway.

Commando - homoeroticism un masse! Must see! I second the proposal above! See!
"I had to let him go.." *shivers*

Every 80's horror-flick, apart from some special ones. The world pre-3d was not as cheesy as the first 3d tryouts, but it's pretty cheesy anyways. Especially this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093075/) one!

Those inclined for anime may want to watch the modern classic Orutsikudödji (sp?). Made anime banned in Sweden! I recommend a drinking game - drink for every panty shot! It's pure wtf-material.

And if you say you havn't seen "Plan 9 from Outer space" I'll bloody wallop you into the next century.

Urotsukidoji ;D Sex and Mayhem! Sex and Mayhem! S and M! :D
Did it really cause anime to be banned in Sweden? Over here they just cut all the sex and violence out! Thus rendering the film useless! (Sex and Mayhem!)

Limping: Yes it was. It is also responsible for this entry in "Svenska akademins ordlista", and I'm writing from memory, poorly translating;

"Anime: noun; animated violent pornography from Japan"

Cut all the sex and violence? That leaves you with about 5 minutes of movie left!

Ah, I see.  Britain had a similar run in with mis-information.  Except they used the term 'Manga'.  All Anime got lumped together as mind-warping Japanese pornography, usually under the banner 'Ban This Sick Filth!'

So bad it's good movie: Nemesis (1993). Cyborgs on the rampage in the deepest, darkest...uh...depths...of South America. Classic!

Oh my God, "Pumaman". What a horrible movie! I remember it despite my best efforts not to.

Poor Donald Pleasence. I just felt sorry for him the entire time.

My favorite bad movie is the live action adaptation of "Fist of the North Star." While it had some impressive kung fu and the talents of Malcom MacDowell and Clint Howard (CLINT HOWARD!!!), nothing could save it from it's own delusions of depth.

Best of all, it cast a hulking brit as the japanese lead and paired him up with a lovely actress that I'm pretty certain learned her lines phonetically and "Downtown" Julie Brown (old MTV viewers take note) against a pretty-boy overlord with fingers of steel and his evil minions - Chris Penn and Clint Howard amongst them.

This movie is so terrible I've worn out two VHS copies of it in the ten years since it was released.

Poor Chris Penn. I just felt sorry for him the entire time.

"The North Star and the Southern Cross should never have fought (then this movie would not have been made)"... Words to live by, people.

You DO know which one I'm talking about don't you?  It's from like 1960-something, and there's this blonde chick that is AWFUL.  I mean, really.  It was pretty poor.  You may be thinking of a different movie, because there has been a BUNCH of remakes of it.

Okay, last week I got tickets to see a sneak peek of Mindhunters, a film so incredibly bad that it sat on the shelf for about two years, and is finally being realised this Friday, I do believe.

It's got Christian Slater, Val Kilmer and LL Cool J in it, and is directed by the guy who directed "Deep Blue Sea" (Another delictably bad film). I definitely reccomend it to anyone who loves bad movies. This film has so many laugh out loud scenes in it, that the whole theatre was in tears by the end.

Speaking of the end, there's a fight scene near the end that is, in my honest opinion, the most enjoyable fight scene in any movie ever made. No joke. It is that good.

I suggest anyone who has money to spare, to see it. Or better yet, hope it comes to a cheap cinema in your town. I know there's a cinema here that plays movies JUST out of the theatres for $2.50, and I personally hope this movie comes to it so I can see it again.

Okay, I'm done.

I've actually talked this over with a couple of friends before. All the people I know who've seen Battle Royal thinks is's totally crappy. But since alot of people other places in the world doesn't agree with this I guess it deals with some cultural values that I don't understand. Could anyone explain why this movie is not crappy? I especially find it hard to justify the ending where Takeshi Kitano gets up to answer the phone.
Maybe I should add that I normally enjoy Asian movies...

BTW I also think that the original Night of the Living Dead is great movie in the original sense of the word.

On Battle Royale: The first thing I saw from this movie was the class getting instructed through video. This in a DVD-tip segment on some filmreviewing program. I ammediatly fell in love with it. There's ways you can compare it to a Clockwork Orange, albeit it is totally different anyway. It is about frustration, deep cynism, and what everyone is actually capable of. And the bottomline is the complete unneccessity of it all. Sure, it's tragicomical, and the acting is not the best ever, but even though you laugh hard sometimes, it's always a bitter taste in your mouth. And for Kitano answering the phone, this had me stumped first aswell, but it's rather simple I guess. He has no intentions other than to die, and that guys a lousy shot. You have to wait for it I guess, and if the phone rings, the phone rings.. ;)

On NotLD: They used actual guts to munch on. How on earth did they get all those people to put pig intestines in their mouth. Wow.

I remember a couple of completely horrible movies that I couldn't stand watching even if I had nothing else to do. One was something about some things called time terrorists.. I could do a better movie if I wanted to.

Maybe a craptastic movie would be Seal, or US Seal, or something like that. Now that movie was bad, but I watched it all.

Sometimes I love watching cheap movies and try to guess what happens next (which is, btw, way too easy)

"USA 4000" I believe was the title. I was just zapping through the channels on TV before going off to do something else and managed to switch to this movie just as it started. I wasn't planning on watching more than the beginning, nor was my friend who was watching TV with me, but we found ourselves completely transfixed with it and watched it all the way through to the credits with a stupid grin on our faces. Movies this bad are rare to come by by chance.

As for the movie itself, as best I can remember it took place in the year 4000, in the USA, after a nuclear war. Made in the '80s there's a sizeable portion of the cast with tall and puffy hair which makes the experience of watching it all the more enjoyable.

I just remembered the movie called "Terminal Error" or something like that. This movie was totally unreallistic... The worst part was when the people used a gameboy to create a virus. That's right... The guy had to create a virus to destroy the big ugly and thinking virus that was destroying everything. You could see the guy typing in a DOS like platform, like a keyboard champion, with just the two buttons on the gameboy. Then they uploaded it on a computer.

When you want to put something unreallistic in your movie, put it with style! >:(

Crappy movies? I'll get around to posting my semi-complete list sometime tomorrow.  It's lame, at the best of times.

Semi-complete because some have gone AWOL, and some are on covet operations around friends' houses.

Over 50 % of the list mentioned so far, I own.  All VHS.  All Ex-Rentals.  All bought dirt cheap.

I'm a big fan of campy, cheesy, delusions of grandeur-type movies.  Some I enjoyed that I haven't seen on this list (or that you can't count on 9 out of 10 people having seen):

Lake Placid (crap movie, Oliver Platt kicks ass).

Day of the Triffids (older movie, classical cheese).

Spiders 2000 (Awesomely bad... crap, crap, crappy craptasticness. Must see.  It begins with an experiment wherein they "Inject" a spider with "Radiation" whilst "In space.")  And yet it takes itself seriously.  Good, good stuff.

If find yourself watching 'Vampirella' make sure your local Emergency Room is on speed dial, because you stand a real chance of laughing yourself to death.

Kevin Bacon is in a lot of these movies.

Some of my favorites are White Water Summer, Footloose, and Hollow Man.

I own White Water Summer and I could watch it every week.  The dialogue is great, Bacon's character Vic is such a crazy bad ass, and Sean Astin is the scared geek in all of us.

Actually, I go to a midnight screening called Weird Wednesday almost every week.  They purposefully play bad/funny movies and obscure ridiculous things.  The last movie I saw was Star Crash, a Star Wars rip-off starring David Hasselhoff.

I would've mentioned Troma films but they haven't got much in the way of subtlety.  They're meant to be bad, so don't really fit this topic.

But, there's a whole other realm for movies that are meant to be bad/funny but end up just being horrid.  Sgt. Kabukiman: NYPD comes to mind.

Believe it or not, but Sgt Kabukiman was actually an attempt by Troma to enter the mainstream.

Of course now they just make films for their own fanbase, which is why Citizen Toxie was crap.

haha, I met Lloyd Kaufman two years ago when Citizen Toxie premiered.

Those guys are nuts but they taught me a lot about cheap special effects.

Everytime a head gets crushed in a Troma, like the kid hit by the car, they use a melon filled with spaghetti and fake blood.  So awesome and affordable.

I like his book, "All I needed to know about filmmaking I learnt from the toxic avenger".

Especially when he talkes about his wife giving birth and adds "I don't know if you've ever seen a baby being born, but it's horrific. If I saw something like that coming out of me, I'd hit it with a hammer"

His appearance is funny too. He reminds me a lot of Mel Brooks.

http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/index.html
Basically it has legal (old, copyright-expired etc.) movies for download (via torrents) which were not so great or just very old.

hmm, I wonder... or then again I don't, why noone has seen Nemesis 4. I don't know about the earlier if there were any, but I got this one on vhs as a christmas present once. It's about a bodybuilder woman who walks around the ruins in Kosovo naked and has sex with kyborgs and then kills them. I've seen it about 5 times and I still have no idea why she has to do that... But she shoots a helicopter down with a pistol, yet no parts fall. And she makes one bubble WV go all GTA
