I just installed Linux redhat 9.0, and i'm pretty new to linux... because of all the damn viruses in windows and also just windows... you know what I mean. I was wondering if any more people are using linux here?

Windows suits me pretty well. Linux is for network administration and boring things, and doesn't really interest me. Macs, on the other hand, have some great music and video capabilities that I've heard of, but Windows is mainstream and popular, and the only realistic choice if you want to have all your favorite games and applications readily available. And you won't get viruses if you don't blindly open applications and exes off of Kazaa. :D

I have redhat 8 installed on a tiny little hard drive from an older computer I had, so I use it ocassionally but not for an useful purpose other than messing with it. I did make the linux runtime of the Granny Zombiekiller (http://netmonkey.cellosoft.com/granny/) teaser demo, tho, with it.
The Tween Module now supports AGS 3.6.0!

Archangel (aka SoupDragon)

I installed Linux once, played with it for a few days, then uninstalled it when I realised that I'd never use it for anything useful.

I have a Mac, because OSX is rock solid (designed by linux) and is the ultimate POWER!

Windows are fine if you can put up with crashes, but they have about 300 times the apps and games mac have. :(

I still know very little about Linux- maybe I should check out some screenshots of it in operation. Doesn't it have even less apps and games than a Mac? ???

P.S.- Tux is such a cool mascot- come on! Mac has a fruit!
LucasArts rocks!

My Opinions on the IMAC

Spoiler
The IMAC is a piece of crap that should be sent straight to hell and with it the designer

Windows XP has pretty nice virus protection now and it has more features...  Like Trapezoid says

QuoteIf you don't open things blindly then there won't be a problem

Sooooo, go to [shadow= green, glow width, 1 character wide] Microsoft, Not the IMAC [/shadow]

bigcitynerd: why do you think that about the imac? do you even know who the creator is?

Red_Armadillo

Custard,

Yes, for your info. I do know who the designer of the IMAC is...but I don't want to take away from your learning experience, soooooo take a guess...

No, FYI I didn't go look it up ;D

Just kidding, the reason I don't like IMACs is just because in my Mom's school all there are are Apple 2+ and I grew up with crap...Plus I think Windows has better benefits to offer With the Exception Of Music

Do you consider crashing a better benefit, bigcitynerd?

Red_Armadillo

Hey,

It beats having two programs to use and a shitty, ineficient design. PLUS Eventually, I bet in Windows 2006, they're going to finally get it right.

Besides, I haven't seen Apple come out with any form of a mobile device OS and if you tried Windows Mobile 2003 you'd know why I like Windows better than the IMAC.

And, I consider it crashing my bonding time with MS-DOS and if you have such a big problem with it then don't get it. :D I mean Windows isn't right for some people (I didn't mean that a a derogatory remark to you I meant some people may prefer the IMAC OS)

They already did, with Windows 2000.

No they didn't, Windows 2000 didn't crash but it didn't have the user benefits that XP has... hmmm something should be done.

i may dislike windows a lot, but windows 2000 was the best one. every computer at my work uses windows 2000.

I dont see what the problem is about the imac though. its great for artwork and such. I wouldnt run a network off of an imac, but I dont see anything wrong with those machines

plus, I still think they look pretty cool

If you're going to get a mac, spend the money and get a Power Book and an external firewire hard drive. They've got amazing capabilities, especially with OSX, and they're amazingly good with multimedia. OSX has very innovative interfaces, like the "dock". My favorite thing about macs, though, is the way all the programs talk to each other. On Windows, getting programs to see each other and work together is as impossible as actually finishing an AGS game (possible, but not probable), but on macs, they're dynamically designed to do exactly that. And Quicktime...don't get me started about the wonders of that program.

But still, apart from all that, I'm a Windows man, definately.

It's yer owld pal Dinghy Dog!!

Red_Armadillo

I will aggree that the IMAC is good for art work and looks cool but it is just not as efficient as many computers.

WIndows 2000 is great for networking but for inexperienced computer users XP has the best advantage.

The best Apple are the laptops as Dinghy posted...

I still say XP is the best and not to be rude but youropinion on 2000 may be flaud... have any of you tried Server 2k3?
