This is a thread devoted to one of the greatest comedies on TV. And I'm sad because it's going to get the axe.
They're finally showing season two here in Australia (even though they're showing season three in the US). And sadly, it's on at 11 o'clock on Monday night, but I always stay up late to watch it.
A year or two back when I first heard Jason Bateman was staring in this show, I thought, "Oh Jesus, Teenwolf Two? That's bad!" Then I actually watched the show and laughed my goddamn arsehole off my buttcheeks. Bateman is damn great, as is the entire cast. And they have Fonzie as their lawyer! And Chachi as their next lawyer!
My favourite characters are Tobias (I'm a huge David Cross fan) and Gob. Gob and his magic tricks are the funniest things I've seen. I now lose it everytime I hear THE FINAL COUNTDOOOWN on the radio. And Tobias with his "I'm looking for something that says, 'Dad likes leather!'" Cracks me up everytime.
I also agree with this article (http://www.theeastcarolinian.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/11/17/437bf9c8679b2).
Anyone else a fan?
EDIT: I also watched a little of Pamela Anderson's new sitcom Stacked tonight. Ugh, pure rubbish! It sickens me that this show is on at a primetime slot and Arrested Development is on late at night.
David Cross and Jeffery Tambor are comic gold!
I haven't really watched the show but my brother swears by it! So I'm going to NetFlix it soon.
As for Pamela Anderson vs. Arrested Development ... Pamela has big tits. That's all the people who decide what times to put what shows care about. Her knockers will make people watch. It's pathetic really. Good, smart, and intelligently written shows get overshadowed by some floozy with big cans.
What a world!
It's good to hear that somebody else likes the show because my brother's tastes can run on the ... unique ... side!
And it's not just Stacked that gets my goat. There's a whole manner of crappy sitcoms they'll put on in place of AD. We've entered the summer non-ratings period here, where all manner of crap gets trudged out. They're showing Joey on primetime Monday. Matt LeBlanc's p-o-s show ahead of AD. Grumble, grumble, grumble, it angers up my blood!
At least they're showing Futurama at a decent time now.
For such a well rated show, it doesn't really get a lot of viewers. Personally, I didn't enjoy the couple episodes I saw, but I've heard rave reviews from enough people to know the only reason it's getting cancelled is because it's on fox, and fox likes axing shows.

Believe me when I say this, stacked isn't going to last much longer. I hope. A show based around pamela anderson? As Darth Manadarb said, "she got big tits" but she's also an annoying bitch. I tried to watch that show last night (since it went on right after that 70's show) and I was getting furiously pissed that it made it to season 2. Arrested development is a great show, I didn't know they were cancelling it... here in America it goes on at 8:00 on mondays, and for a while at 12:00 every night, so I expected nothing. Stupid fox network...
I really like Arrested Development as well although I've only seen Season 1.Ã,Â
I'm not surprised that it doesn't have a lot of viewers.Ã, I think it takes a few episodes for a viewer to get a feel for the pace of the series.Ã, I watched it on DVD and found it built up momentum as it progressed that I imagine would have been lacking if watched only on a weekly basis.Ã, I think the continuity between episodes also makes it difficult for a viewer to access.Ã, I loved the 1st Season but I refused to watch the 2nd season on television because it was already in progress and I wanted to see the episodes in sequence.
I'm not sure that mine is a common attitude but if so DVD may inadvertently hurt the ratings of shows like this.
I liked the show also.
Same here squinky. I watched the show almost every sunday when it was on before being moved to fridays.
It was hilarious, and too bad it has to leave this earth so abruptly.
I really enjoy Arrested Development too, but I think Fox gave it a fair shot. It was never going to be a huge hit right off the bat (it's too weird and different, and there's no laugh track to clue people in that it's a comedy), so a primetime slot wouldn't make sense. However, it was promoted pretty aggressively, and aired around shows it made sense to air it with. The truth is, AD never managed to attract a big enough audience given its timeslot. It only got a second season because someone at Fox liked it and wanted to give it one more chance to pick up some viewers.
I know Fox has a reputation for cancelling shows that are cool and unique, but that's partly because they're willing to give those shows a chance in the first place. There are plenty of things wrong with Fox, but they do seem to be marginally more open to something different than the bigger networks.
So if you want to blame somebody, blame the American TV-viewing public.
Oh, and my favorite joke from Arrested Development (spoiler for those not up-to-date with the US broadcasts, give or take an episode):

Arrested Development is goddamn brilliant. I've watched it since it started and I can't get enough. In my opinion, season two was a bit less funny that season one, and season three has been a bit less funny that season two, but it's still the funniest (I should insert the word "non-animated" here just to cover my ass) show on television right now.
If there was any justice in the world, AD would get at least five seasons. But, we'll have to do with what we got, which was brilliance.
I saw a few episodes (must have been a year or so ago) and while it's obviously a quality show, entertaining and it made me smile, I never found it funny enough to actually laugh out loud. So I eventually tuned out.
My current favorite "sit-coms" are Corner Gas (possibly only on in Canada) and My Name Is Earl - both of which, like AD, eschew the laugh track and and other conventions of bad sit-coms.

Exactly what the article I posted in my first thread said. I don't blame FOX either. I blame the idiots who are watching "The King of Queens".
And, yes, I too saw the episode with the...

ANALRAPIST joke
It was a fucking hilarious joke!

Agreed. It's not a fair world when 50 cent catches all of the bullets.
